Aromatic sulfonation XI: Sulfonation of benzene and toluene with sulfur trioxide; sulfone formation and sulfonic acid isomer distribution. [PDF]

open access: possibleRecueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas, 1964
AbstractThe sulfonation of benzene and toluene with sulfur trioxide without solvent has been studied extensively. With benzene at low conversion benzenesulfonic acid and diphenylsulfone are the only products. At 25° the sulfone: sulfonic acid ratio changes from 0.2 to 0.6 on varying the SO3 : C6H6 ratio from 0.13 to 1.3.

Amphiphilic perfluoroalkylated sulfones and sulfonate betaines

Journal of Fluorine Chemistry, 2007
Abstract Two types of perfluoro alkyl-containing amphiphilic sulfones 7 – 9 and 13 – 15 , respectively, and sulfonate betaines 23 – 32 were prepared using 2-[(perfluoroalkyl)methyl]oxiranes ( 1–3 , R F  = C 4 F 9 , C 6 F 13 , C 8 F 17 ) or 3-(perfluoroalkyl)propyl iodides ( 16 and 17 , R F  = C 6 F 13 , C 8 F 17 ) as the starting compounds ...

Vinyl sulfones

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2008
Four neutral vinyl sulfones, two of which are paired with phosphonate groups, are described. The compounds are diisopropyl (2-phenylethenylsulfonylmethyl)phosphonate, C(15)H(23)O(5)PS, (I), diisopropyl {[2-(7-methoxy-1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)ethenylsulfonyl]methylsulfonylmethyl}phosphonate, C(18)H(27)O(10)PS(2), (II), bis(trans-2-phenylethenyl) sulfone, C ...

Drug Reactions to the Sulfones

Archives of Dermatology, 1970
In a brief temporal span, two patients treated with diaminodiphenyl sulfone had significant reactions to the drug. These were severe hemolysis and the hitherto undescribed reaction of cholestatic jaundice. Review of the literature in regards to indications for sulfone therapy and the drug-associated reactions was accomplished.
