Adherens junctions (AJs) play a crucial role in epithelial tissue development and tumorigenesis, and the mechanisms controlling their assembly and disassembly have therefore attracted considerable attention. A paper from Tsur et al. (2015) in this issue of Developmental Cell now shows how sumoylation and desumoylation of E-cadherin promotes its ...

Structural basis for the E3 ligase activity enhancement of yeast Nse2 by SUMO-interacting motifs
Post-translational modification of proteins by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifiers, such as SUMO, are key events in protein homeostasis or DNA damage response.

SUMO pathway inhibition targets an aggressive pancreatic cancer subtype
Objective Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) still carries a dismal prognosis with an overall 5-year survival rate of 9%. Conventional combination chemotherapies are a clear advance in the treatment of PDAC; however, subtypes of the disease exist ...

AbstractWe address the optimal allocation of stochastically dependent resource bundles to a set of simultaneous contests. For this purpose, we study a modification of the Colonel Blotto Game called the Tennis Coach Problem. We devise a thoroughly probabilistic method of payoff representation and fully characterize equilibria in this class of games.

EXAMINING THE SAFETY IMPACTS OF TRANSIT PRIORITY SIGNAL SYSTEMS USING SIMULATION TECHNIQUES [PDF]
Transit Priority Signal (TPS) systems are increasingly used to improve traffic efficiency and reduce passenger waiting times. However, such systems may carry potential safety risks.

Diversification of SUMO-Activating Enzyme in Arabidopsis: Implications in SUMO Conjugation [PDF]
Sumoylation is an essential posttranslational modification that participates in many biological processes including stress responses. However, little is known about the mechanisms that control Small Ubiquitin-like MOdifier (SUMO) conjugation in vivo. We have evaluated the regulatory role of the heterodimeric E1 activating enzyme, which catalyzes the ...

SUMO-Conjugating and SUMO-Deconjugating Enzymes from Arabidopsis [PDF]
Abstract Posttranslational protein modification by the small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) is a highly dynamic and reversible process. To analyze the substrate specificity of SUMO-conjugating and -deconjugating enzymes from Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), we reconstituted its SUMOylation cascade in vitro and tested the capacity of ...

SUMO modification in apoptosis [PDF]
AbstractApoptosis and clearance of dead cells is highly evolutionarily conserved from nematode to humans, which is crucial to the growth and development of multicellular organism. Fail to remove apoptotic cells often lead to homeostasis imbalance, fatal autoimmune diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases.
