Dissolution Improvement of Simvastatin by Surface Solid Dispersion Technology

open access: yesDissolution Technologies, 2010
The objective of the present study was to formulate surface solid dispersions (SSD) of simvastatin to improve the aqueous solubility and dissolution rate to facilitate faster onset of action. Simvastatin is a BCS Class II drug having low solubility (1.45 µg/mL) and therefore low oral bioavailability (5%).

Surface melting of methane and methane film on magnesium oxide

open access: yes, 2000
Experiments on surface melting of several organic materials have shown contradictory results. We study the Van der Waals interactions between interfaces in surface melting of the bulk CH_4 and interfacial melting of the CH_4 film on the MgO substrate ...

The stellar structure and kinematics of dwarf spheroidal galaxies formed by tidal stirring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Using high-resolution N-body simulations we study the stellar properties of dwarf spheroidal galaxies resulting from the tidally induced morphological transformation of disky dwarfs on a cosmologically motivated eccentric orbit around the Milky Way ...

Introduction of Side Chains into Polyglycine Dispersed on Solid Surface. I [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 1956
Abstract 1) Polyglycine dispersed on the surface of kaolinite was prepared by the polycondensation of N-carboxylic anhydride or glycine ester on kaolinite. 2) It was concluded that a part of glycyl residues in polyglycine dispersed on kaolinite was easily converted to seryl or threonyl residues by the ...

Surface-motility induction, attraction and hitchhiking between bacterial species promote dispersal on solid surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesThe ISME Journal, 2013
Abstract The ability to move on solid surfaces provides ecological advantages for bacteria, yet many bacterial species lack this trait. We found that Xanthomonas spp. overcome this limitation by making use of proficient motile bacteria in their vicinity. Using X. perforans and Paenibacillus vortex as models, we show that X.

Serological Benefit of SARS‐CoV‐2 Vaccination Relative to Infection in Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are at risk of severe outcomes from SARS‐CoV‐2 (SCV2). In the post‐pandemic context, where most children have been infected with SCV2, there are limited data on whether vaccination remains beneficial in children with ALL.

Velocity dispersion due to anelasticity; implications for seismology and mantle composition [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The concept of a relaxation spectrum is used to compute the absorption and dispersion of a linear anelastic solid. The Boltzmann after-effect equation is solved for a solid having a linear relationship between stress and strain and their first time ...

Effect of preparation method on the surface properties and UV imaging of indomethacin solid dispersions [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, 2019
This work explores the use of UV imaging in solid dispersion systems. Solid dispersions are one of the common strategies used in improving the dissolution of poorly soluble drugs. Three manufacturing techniques (spray drying (SD), freeze drying (FD) and homogenising (HG)) are investigated.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Dynamics of viscous amphiphilic films supported by elastic solid substrates

open access: yes, 1997
The dynamics of amphiphilic films deposited on a solid surface is analyzed for the case when shear oscillations of the solid surface are excited. The two cases of surface- and bulk shear waves are studied with film exposed to gas or to a liquid.
