Comparison of Circuit Models for ML-Assisted Microwave Circuit Design

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Microwaves
Machine-learning (ML) assisted microwave circuit design is an interesting complement to traditional topology-based design since it opens up previously unexplored design spaces that in some cases may offer better performance, or similar performance with a

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Surrogate Models for Optimization of Dynamical Systems

open access: yes, 2021
Driven by increased complexity of dynamical systems, the solution of system of differential equations through numerical simulation in optimization problems has become computationally expensive.

Versatile surrogate models for IC buffers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In previous papers [1,2] the authors have investigated the use of Volterra series in the identification of IC buffer macro-models. While the approach benefited from some of the inherent qualities of Volterra series it preserved the two-state paradigm of ...

Making global sensitivity analysis feasible using neural network surrogates

open access: yesData-Centric Engineering
How can we make global sensitivity analysis accessible and viable for engineering practice? In this translation article, we present a methodology to enable sensitivity analysis for structural and geotechnical engineering for built environment design and ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Evaluating cascade correlation neural networks for surrogate modelling needs and enhancing the Nimrod/O toolkit for multi-objective optimisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Engineering design often requires the optimisation of multiple objectives, and becomes significantly more difficult and time consuming when the response surfaces are multimodal, rather than unimodal.

Model-Based Sequential Design of Experiments with Machine Learning for Aerospace Systems

open access: yesAerospace
Traditional experimental design methods often face challenges in handling complex aerospace systems due to the high dimensionality and nonlinear behavior of such systems, resulting in nonoptimal experimental designs.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
