Differentially Private Regression for Discrete-Time Survival Analysis

open access: yes, 2017
In survival analysis, regression models are used to understand the effects of explanatory variables (e.g., age, sex, weight, etc.) to the survival probability.

Trends and socioeconomic inequalities in cancer survival in England and Wales up to 2001. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We examined national trends and socioeconomic inequalities in cancer survival in England and Wales during the 1990s, using population-based data on 2.2 million patients who were diagnosed with one of the 20 most common cancers between 1986 and 1999 and ...

RAD50 missense variants differentially affect the DNA damage response and mitotic progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
RAD50 incorporates into the MRN complex and initiates the DNA damage response. Furthermore, RAD50 promotes mitotic progression. RAD50 missense variants capable of forming an MRN complex supported the DNA damage response and mitotic features to different extents in complementation experiments, indicating these functions are separable and might impact ...

SALMON: Survival Analysis Learning With Multi-Omics Neural Networks on Breast Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Improved cancer prognosis is a central goal for precision health medicine. Though many models can predict differential survival from data, there is a strong need for sophisticated algorithms that can aggregate and filter relevant predictors from ...

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Survival benefit of combined immunotherapy and chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced unresectable esophageal cancer: an analysis based on the SEER database

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundWhile simultaneous chemoradiotherapy remains the established therapeutic modality for patients afflicted with locally advanced esophageal cancer, the effectiveness of this radical approach falls short of the desired outcome.

SURVIVAL ANALYSIS

open access: yesStatistical Methods for Biomedical Research, 2007
Survival analysis is a collection of statistical methods that are used to describe, explain, or predict the occurrence and timing of events. The name survival analysis stems from the fact that these methods were originally developed by biostatisticians ...

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...
