Trace Element Composition of Stream Sediments an Integrating Factor for Water Quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Bottom sediments, suspended sediments, and water were sampled along 130 miles of the Buffalo River in northern Arkansas. The water and acid extracts of the suspended sediments and the minus 95 mesh fraction of the bottom sediments were analyzed by atomic

Evaluation of heat extraction through sapphire fibers for the GW observatory KAGRA

open access: yes, 2014
Currently, the Japanese gravitational wave laser interferometer KAGRA is under construction in the Kamioka mine. As one main feature, it will employ sapphire mirrors operated at a temperature of 20K to reduce the impact from thermal noise.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Temporal and Spatial Variations of Relationship between Suspended load Concentration and Some Contaminants of the Zayandeh-Rud River [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی منابع آب, 2015
Dynamics, transportation and deposition of the suspended load and its interactions with other ecosystem components play an important roles in a watershed system. The present study aimed at assessing in the temporal and spatial variations of relationships

Operation of an activated sludge plant for fellmongery wastewater treatment : a thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Technology in Environmental Engineering at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Activated sludge is one of the most common wastewater-treatment processes used to reduce pollutant loads on the receiving environment. For efficient operation, there must be an effective process control and operation strategy in place to ensure that ...

Suspending loads decreases load stability but may slightly improve body stability [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanics, 2017
Here, we seek to determine how compliantly suspended loads could affect the dynamic stability of legged locomotion. We theoretically model the dynamic stability of a human carrying a load using a coupled spring-mass-damper model and an actuated spring-loaded inverted pendulum model, as these models have demonstrated the ability to correctly predict ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

The grain size distribution function of suspended load in the lower Yellow River

open access: yesRiver
The log‐normal distribution function (LNDF) and Weibull cumulative density function (WCDF) represent two prevalent approaches for characterizing sediment grain size distributions.
