Serum versus synovial fluid interleukin-6 for periprosthetic joint infection diagnosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 30 diagnostic test accuracy studies

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2022
Background Early and accurate detection of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after hip and/or knee arthroplasty remains challenging. This systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy studies aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy

Autoreactivity to malondialdehyde-modifications in rheumatoid arthritis is linked to disease activity and synovial pathogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesJ Autoimmun. 2017 Nov; 84:29-45, 2017
Oxidation-associated malondialdehyde (MDA) modification of proteins can generate immunogenic neo-epitopes that are recognized by autoantibodies. In health, IgM antibodies to MDA-adducts are part of the natural antibody pool, while elevated levels of IgG anti-MDA are associated with inflammatory conditions.

Fast Morphological Gallbladder Changes Triggered by a Hypercholesterolemic Diet

open access: yesAnnals of Hepatology, 2018
Introduction and aim. Obesity is a worldwide epidemic problem, described as a risk factor for hepatic diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and other pathologies related to development of cholesterol crystals and cholesterol gallbladder ...

Initial results of finger imaging using Photoacoustic Computed Tomography [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics, 19(6), 60501, 2014
We present a photoacoustic computed tomography investigation on a healthy human finger, to image blood vessels with a focus on vascularity across the interphalangeal joints. The cross-sectional images were acquired using an imager specifically developed for this purpose.

A hyperelastic oscillatory Couette system [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We report (semi-)analytical solutions of a problem involving a visco-hyperelastic solid material layer sandwiched between two fluid layers, in turn confined by two long planar walls that undergo oscillatory motion. The resulting system dynamics are rationalized, based on fluid viscosity and solid elasticity, via wave and boundary-layer theory.

Hierarchical excluded volume screening in solutions of bottlebrush polymers [PDF]

open access: yesSoft Matter 2017, 2017
Polymer bottlebrushes provide intriguing features being relevant both in nature and in synthetic systems. While their presence in the articular cartilage optimizes synovial joint lubrication, bottlebrushes offer pathways for fascinating applications, such as within super- soft elastomers or for drug delivery.

Multi-lipid synergy in synovial lubrication: natural redundancy vs. natural selection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The very low sliding friction of articular cartilage in the major synovial joints such as hips and knees is crucial for their well-being, and has been attributed to lubrication by phospholipid boundary layers. While single-component lipid layers have demonstrated efficient lubricity in model studies, in living joints there is a large number of ...

Vulnerability of geriatric patients to biomaterial associated infections: in vitro study of biofilm formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa on orthopedic implants [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Fibronectin, a glycoprotein secreted by connective tissue cells is found in the human plasma as well as in the ECM. It is known to have an adhesive property and plays a role in cell-to-cell and cell-to-substratum adhesions. In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA), fibronectin is locally synthesized by the synovial cells, and the synovial ...

Determination of ratio of passing of flunixin meglumine into sinovial fluid [PDF]

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Veterinary Sciences
This experimental study was conducted to determine of ratio of passing of flunixin meglumine into synovial fluid. Five healthy dogs were usedas materials. Flunixin meglumine (FinadynR) was injected intramuscularly (1.1 mg/kg) to each dog.

Inflammatory and healing environment in synovial fluid after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: Granulocytes and endogenous opioids as new targets of postoperative pain

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2021
Background: Biological processes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is crucial for recovery. However, alterations in the of synovial fluid cell population during the acute phase following ACLR and the relationship between these cells ...
