This review focuses on the mechanisms of stress response in the synovial tissue of rheumatoid arthritis. The major stress factors, such as heat stress, shear stress, proinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress, are discussed and reviewed, focusing on their potential to induce a stress response in the synovial tissue.

Chondrosarcomas of the synovium [PDF]
Chondrosarcoma of the synovium, either primary or secondary to synovial chondromatosis, is rare. Ten cases of synovial chondrosarcoma were studied (four from the Mayo Clinic files and six from the authors' consultation files). Two were considered primary.

Immunopathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis [PDF]
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common inflammatory arthropathy. The majority of evidence, derived from genetics, tissue analyses, models, and clinical studies, points to an immune-mediated etiology associated with stromal tissue dysregulation that

This paper describes the structure and function of the normal synovium including the cellular content, nerve and vascular supply and how normal synovium maintains homeostasis within the joint. It is important to understand normal synovium before appreciating the changes that occur in the synovial membrane which leads to the pathology seen in ...

Distribution of Neuropeptides in the Synovium of Charcot Neuroarthropathy
Category: Basic Sciences/Biologics Introduction/Purpose: The pathology of Charcot neuroarthropathy (CNA) presents inflammation, and bone and cartilage destruction. It is still unclear how the neuropathic signals lead to joint inflammation and destruction.

Driving chronicity in rheumatoid arthritis: perpetuating role of myeloid cells [PDF]
Acute inflammation is a complex and tightly regulated homeostatic process that includes leukocyte migration from the vasculature into tissues to eliminate the pathogen/injury, followed by a pro-resolving response promoting tissue repair.
