Deaths linked to synthetic cannabinoids [PDF]

open access: yesForensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, 2015
Over the last 5 years there has been an influx of novel designer drugs (mostly illegal) which are intended to mimic the effects of cannabis (synthetic cannabinoids). Many of these compounds are created by research groups attempting to find an analog of cannabis that can be used therapeutically to treat pain and other conditions.

Beyond the Outburst: Charting a New Frontier for Understanding and Treating Irritability in Autistic Adults

open access: yesAutism Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Irritability is a prevalent and impairing feature associated with autism, yet remains poorly understood, particularly in adults. Drawing heavily on insights translated from pediatric and transdiagnostic literatures, we propose that irritability in autistic individuals often reflects a psychophysiological stress or threat response, rooted in a ...

Metabolic fate of drugs of abuse and new psychoactive substances: A pilot study on a novel workflow using a zebrafish embryo model combined with human microdosing

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim The aim of this study was to develop a novel workflow to identify human urine biomarkers for drugs of abuse and new psychoactive substances. Metabolites of amphetamine, cocaine, LSD, MDMA, methamphetamine, THC, MDMB‐CHMICA, and MDPPP were first identified in a zebrafish embryo (ZE) metabolism study followed by comparison to most abundant human ...

A Novel Workflow for Fast Elucidation of Drug Metabolites for Screening—Combining In Silico Metabolite Prediction With Trapped Ion Mobility QTOF‐MS

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
UHPLC‐timsTOF‐MS with in silico prediction and automated annotation enabled rapid identification of quetiapine metabolites from pHLMs, facilitating their inclusion in targeted LC‐QTOF‐MS urine screening and improving biomarker detection for toxicological applications.

Recreational Drug Use at a Music Festival: A Dual Approach Using Hair Biomarkers Analysis and Participant Self‐Reported Drug Use

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Combined self‐report and hair analysis in festival attendees (n = 249) revealed substantial discrepancies in drug use reporting, particularly for stimulants and dissociatives. This integrated approach enhances detection of poly‐drug use and provides a more reliable basis for monitoring and harm‐reduction strategies.

Cannabinoids and Cannabinoid Receptors: The Story so Far

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Like most modern molecular biology and natural product chemistry, understanding cannabinoid pharmacology centers around molecular interactions, in this case, between the cannabinoids and their putative targets, the G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs ...
