Synthetic Control Methods for Proportions

open access: yes
Synthetic control methods are extensively utilized in political science for estimating counterfactual outcomes in case studies and difference-in-differences settings, often applied to model counterfactual proportional data. However, the conventional synthetic control methods are designed for univariate outcomes, leading researchers to model ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

A Convenient Laboratory‐Scale Synthesis Route Toward the PPARα Agonist Pemafibrate

open access: yesChemistryOpen
Pemafibrate is a potent and selective agonist of peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor alpha (PPARα). It was designed to improve lipid metabolism with enhanced safety and efficacy compared to traditional fibrates and is clinically approved in Japan ...

Anchorage‐independent and faster growth in clonal population from UV‐irradiated NER‐deficient cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UV‐irradiated cells expressing a DDB2 mutant protein unable to interact with PCNA (DDB2PCNA‐) form clones able to grow without anchorage. Different experimental approaches reveal heterogeneity in cell cycle regulation and drug response within these clones, emphasizing the crucial role of the DDB2‐PCNA interaction in preventing cellular transformation ...
