Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Systemic Design: How to Compete by Leveraging the Value System

open access: yes, 2015
Sustainability interfaces with the economy through the social and ecological consequences of economic activities. Furthermore, the culture of food lends strategic value to the food system with its economic, social, cultural, and environmental ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Facilitating stroke care planning through simulation modelling.

open access: yes, 2010
Stroke is a leading cause of death and long-term severe disability. A major difficulty facing stroke care provision in the UK is the lack of service integration between the many authorities, professionals and stakeholders involved in the process.

The nature of risk in complex projects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
© 2017 Project Management Institute, Inc. Risk analysis is important for complex projects; however, systemicity makes evaluating risk in real projects difficult.

Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

Redesigning Systems Thinking

open access: yesFORMakademisk, 2017
The resent movement of Systemic Design seeks for new synergies between Design and Systems. While the usefulness of systems approaches in design has been fairly obvious, this paper argues that many core concepts in design are beneficial in systems ...

Measuring constructive alignment: an alignment metric to guide good practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a computational model that represents and computes the level to which an educational design is constructively aligned. The model is able to provide ‘alignment metrics’ for both holistic and individual aspects of a programme or module design. A

Cotargeting TREM2 and IL2 pathways triggers multipronged anticancer immunity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Von Locquenghien et al. report that MiTE‐144, a triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) blocking antibody fused to interleukin‐2 (IL2) variant with tumour microenvironment restricted activation, demonstrates superior anticancer efficiency in a preclinical setting.

Sicilian Native Wool. From Waste to Resource

open access: yesDIID
This study focuses on Sicilian native wool, historically excluded from industrial supply chains due to its coarse morphology, and explores its regenerative potential across ecological, economic, and cultural dimensions.
