A Novel Flood Risk Analysis Framework Based on Earth Observation Data to Retrieve Historical Inundations and Future Scenarios

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Global warming is exacerbating flood hazards, making the robustness of flood risk management a critical issue. Without considering future scenarios, flood risk analysis built only on historical knowledge may not adequately address the coming challenges ...

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Evaluating the performance of pixel-based and object-based multidimensional clustering algorithms for automated surface water mapping

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
Remote sensing observations of surface water are vital for effective water resource management and sustainable development. Unsupervised classification holds promise for automating large-scale surface water detection, and it helps solve the difficult ...

ChinaSoyArea10m: a dataset of soybean-planting areas with a spatial resolution of 10 m across China from 2017 to 2021 [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Science Data
Soybean, an essential food crop, has witnessed a steady rise in demand in recent years. There is a lack of high-resolution annual maps depicting soybean-planting areas in China, despite China being the world's largest consumer and fourth-largest producer

Market Structure, Counterparty Risk, and Systemic Risk [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2011
Networks modeling bilaterally-cleared and centrally-cleared derivatives markets are shown to yield economically different price impact, volatility and contagion after an initial bankruptcy. A large bankruptcy in bilateral markets may leave a counterparty unable to expectationally prevent bankruptcy (checkmate) or make counterparties push markets and ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Analysis of pork price fluctuations during the special era when African swine fever and COVID-19 epidemic coexisted: an empirical study in Macau, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
IntroductionEmergent crises can have a catastrophic impact on regional economic systems. The concurrent outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) and the COVID-19 pandemic have severely affected Macau’s pork industry, making it an interesting case study for
