Clearance of Giardia muris infection requires helper/inducer T lymphocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of experimental medicine, 1987
The aim of this work was to identify the T cell subset (helper/inducer or cytotoxic/suppressor) that plays a major part in the clearance of Giardia muris infection. BALB/c mice were selectively depleted of helper/inducer (Th/i) or cytotoxic/suppressor (Tc/s) T cells, by treatment with rat IgG monoclonal antibodies directed against the Th/i cell surface

Heterogeneity of helper/inducer T lymphocytes. I. Lymphokine production and lymphokine responsiveness. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of experimental medicine, 1987
Antigen-specific, Ia-restricted helper/inducer T lymphocytes consist of subsets that can be distinguished by lymphokine secretion. One, called Th1, secretes IL-2 and the other, termed Th2, produces BSF-1/IL-4 in response to stimulation by lectin or antigen receptor signals, and each uses the respective lymphokine as its autocrine growth factor.

Increase in the Helper Inducer (CD4+CD29+) T Lymphocytes in Smokers.

open access: yesINDUSTRIAL HEALTH, 1998
Previously, we reported an increase in the number of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of smokers. In the present study, subpopulations of CD4+ T lymphocytes together with CD8+ T lymphocytes, total (CD3+) T lymphocytes, B (CD19+) lymphocytes, natural killer (CD16+) cells and total lymphocytes were examined by two-color staining using anti-2H4 (

Transfusions enriched for W3/25+ helper/inducer T lymphocytes prevent spontaneous diabetes in the BB/W rat [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 1987
Transfusions of spleen cells are known to prevent spontaneous autoimmune diabetes in susceptible BB/W rats, while T cell-depleted transfusions are ineffective. To characterize further the protective cell(s), we transfused young diabetes prone rats with splenocytes from diabetes resistant BB/W rats that were treated in vitro to enrich them in either OX8+

Heterogeneity of helper/inducer T lymphocytes. II. Effects of interleukin 4- and interleukin 2-producing T cell clones on resting B lymphocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of experimental medicine, 1988
To compare the helper function of murine T cell clones that secrete IL-2 and IFN-gamma (Th1 cells) or IL-4 and IL-5 (Th2), purified resting B cells were stimulated with F(ab')2 rabbit anti-mouse Ig (RAMG) and rabbit Ig-specific, class II MHC-restricted cloned T cells belonging to the two subsets.

DIETARY NUCLEOTIDES, A REQUIREMENT FOR HELPER/INDUCER T LYMPHOCYTES

open access: yesTransplantation, 1985
Previous investigations have revealed that dietary nucleotide restriction delays the onset of primary murine cardiac allograft rejection and acute graft-versus-host disease followed H-2-incompatible bone marrow transplantation, suppresses sensitization to intradermally injected antigens and suppresses in vivo and in vitro lymphocyte proliferation to ...

Malignant and tuberculous pleural effusions: immunophenotypic cellular characterization [PDF]

open access: yesClinics, 2008
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Tuberculosis and cancer are the main causes of pleural effusion. Pleural involvement is associated with migration of immune cells to the pleural cavity.

Heterogeneity of helper/inducer T lymphocytes. IV. Stimulation of resting and activated B cells by Th1 and Th2 clones.

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 1990
Abstract To test the hypothesis that resting and previously activated B lymphocytes differ in their proliferative and differentiative responses to various Th cell-derived stimuli, we have examined the interactions of purified small (resting) and large (activated) murine B cells with rabbit Ig-specific Th1 and Th2 clones in the presence ...

The functionally distinct subpopulations of human CD4+ helper/inducer T lymphocytes defined by anti-CD45R antibodies derive sequentially from a differentiation pathway that is regulated by activation-dependent post-thymic differentiation.

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 1988
Abstract The CD4+ helper/inducer T cell population is comprised of functionally distinct subsets identifiable by the HB11 (anti-CD45R) mAb. We have previously shown that the cells that provide help for antibody production express the CD4+CD45R- phenotype. In contrast, CD4+ CD45R+ cells have minimal, if any, helper cell functions; rather,

Heterogeneity of helper/inducer T lymphocytes. III. Responses of IL-2- and IL-4-producing (Th1 and Th2) clones to antigens presented by different accessory cells.

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 1990
Abstract Murine CD4+ T cell clones have been classified into at least two subsets, Th1 and Th2, on the basis of their distinct lymphokine secretion profiles and functions. In the present study, we compared the functional responses of Th1 and Th2 clones to Ag presentation by splenic B cells and peritoneal macrophages.
