Clearance of Giardia muris infection requires helper/inducer T lymphocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of experimental medicine, 1987
The aim of this work was to identify the T cell subset (helper/inducer or cytotoxic/suppressor) that plays a major part in the clearance of Giardia muris infection. BALB/c mice were selectively depleted of helper/inducer (Th/i) or cytotoxic/suppressor (Tc/s) T cells, by treatment with rat IgG monoclonal antibodies directed against the Th/i cell surface

Heterogeneity of helper/inducer T lymphocytes. I. Lymphokine production and lymphokine responsiveness. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of experimental medicine, 1987
Antigen-specific, Ia-restricted helper/inducer T lymphocytes consist of subsets that can be distinguished by lymphokine secretion. One, called Th1, secretes IL-2 and the other, termed Th2, produces BSF-1/IL-4 in response to stimulation by lectin or antigen receptor signals, and each uses the respective lymphokine as its autocrine growth factor.

Malignant and tuberculous pleural effusions: immunophenotypic cellular characterization [PDF]

open access: yesClinics, 2008
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Tuberculosis and cancer are the main causes of pleural effusion. Pleural involvement is associated with migration of immune cells to the pleural cavity.

Development of Human ILCs and Impact of Unconventional Cytotoxic Subsets in the Pathophysiology of Inflammatory Diseases and Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) were firstly described by different independent laboratories in 2008 as tissue-resident innate lymphocytes mirroring the phenotype and function of T helper cells. ILCs have been subdivided into three distinct subgroups, ILC1,

ASSESSMENT OF THE PERCENTAGES OF T-LYMPHOCYTE SUBSETS IN THE PERIPHERAL BLOOD OF MEDITERRANEAN SPOTTED FEVER PATIENTS [PDF]

open access: yesTrakia Journal of Sciences, 2020
PURPOSE: Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) is a rickettsial disease. THE AIM was to evaluate the host immunе response to Rickettsia conorii. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 62 patients were assigned into three groups: with mild, moderate or severe clinical forms ...

Immunological alterations in patients with primary tumors in central nervous system [PDF]

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 1999
Natural killer (NK) cells play an important role in immune surveillance against tumors. The present work aimed to study the cytotoxic activity of NK cells and T cell subsets in peripheral blood of 13 patients with primary tumors in central nervous system

Optimal control of an HIV model with a trilinear antibody growth function [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. Ser. S 15 (2022), no. 3, 501--518, 2021
We propose and study a new mathematical model of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The main novelty is to consider that the antibody growth depends not only on the virus and on the antibodies concentration but also on the uninfected cells concentration.

Helper-Inducer T-Lymphocytes Mediate Diabetes in EMC-Infected BALB/c By J Mice [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes, 1987
Diabetes mellitus developing in BALB/c ByJ mice infected with the M variant of encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus is dependent on thymic immune mechanisms. We treated mice with the anti-Tlymphocyte monoclonal anti-L3T4 and anti-Lyt2.2 antibodies before virus inoculation and monitored the infection and occurrence of diabetes thereafter.

Do Helper T Cell Subtypes in Lymphocytic Thyroiditis Play a Role in the Antitumor Effect? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pathology and Translational Medicine, 2016
Background Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is frequently accompanied by lymphocytic thyroiditis (LT). Some reports claim that Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (the clinical form of LT) enhances the likelihood of PTC; however, others suggest that LT has ...
