We previously demonstrated that 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM), a by-product of thyroid hormone metabolism, pharmacologically administered to mice acutely stimulated learning and memory acquisition and provided hyperalgesia with a mechanism which remains to be defined.

The 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) and 3-iodothryoacetic acid (TA1), are endogenous occurring compounds structurally related with thyroid hormones (THs, the pro-hormone T4 and the active hormone T3) initially proposed as possible mediators of the rapid effects of T3.

Uptake and metabolic effects of 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) in hepatocytes
3-Iodothyronamine (T1AM) is an endogenous relative of thyroid hormone with profound metabolic effects. In different experimental models, T1AM increased blood glucose, and it is not clear whether this effect is entirely accounted by changes in insulin and/or glucagone secretion.

Thyroxine (T4) is the predominant form of thyroid hormone (TH). In target tissues, T4 is enzymatically deiodinated to 3,5,3′-triiodothyronine (T3), a high-affinity ligand for the nuclear TH receptors TRα and Trβ. T3 modulates genes transcription via activation of TRα and TRβ. Non-genomic effects have also been described.

3-Iodothyronamine (T1AM) is a hormone like molecule structurally similar to TH, that has been reported to modulate energy metabolism by favoring lipid over glucose catabolism. To better understand the role played by T1AM on the regulation of lipid metabolism, in the present study we administered spontaneously obese mice with T1AM at two different ...

Deciphering the potential of 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) in regulating lipid metabolism
3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) is a novel chemical messenger that has been reported to regulate energy metabolism and body weight. To better characterize its effects in a subacute model, we treated obese mice with two different dosages of T1AM for seven days, and analyzed plasma and tissue extracts using multidisciplinary approaches.

3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) induces changes on glutamatergic postsynaptic signaling pathway
Objective: Exogenous 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM), a derivative of thyroid hormone, produces antiamnestic and prolearning effects in mice. Glutamatergic neurotransmission, the major excitatory system in brain, plays a key role in regulating neuroplasticity, learning and memory, and it is often compromised in neurological disorders.
