T cells constitute one arm of the adaptive immune system. The accumulating information on various aspects of T-cell biology shows the intricacies in the regulation of immune responses. How we translate the cellular and molecular details of this regulation into innovation and development of therapies for disease management remains a fundamental, but ...

Some of the key features of aging effects on T lymphocytes have been illuminated in the last few years from new angles. Experimental evidence indicates a profound increase in the proportion of memory versus naive types of T cells, a decline in the response to activation and in the capacity to enter the cycle, and decline in levels of IL-2, yet an ...

We have provided a speculative overview of some of the questions concerning the nature of thymic stem cells and the role of the thymus in their maturation, and have suggested experimental approaches which might provide solutions to some of the questions.

Initiator and recruited T lymphocytes are distinct subclasses of T lymphocytes
European Journal of Immunology, 1978AbstractIn previous studies we found that the generation of a cell‐mediated immune reaction required interaction between sensitized initiator T lymphocytes (ITL) and syngeneic recruited T lymphocytes (RTL). ITL were sensitized in vitro against allogeneic mouse fibroblasts and injected into a footpad of syngeneic recipient mice.

Suppressor T‐Lymphocytes in Pregnancy
American Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 1984ABSTRACT: Primiparous and multiparous healthy pregnant women were tested at the end of the gestation period, or immediately after delivery, for their lymphocyte reactivity to paternal or neonatal cells in mixed lymphocyte culture and in cell‐mediate cytotoxicity assays.

Calcium signalling in T-lymphocytes
Biochimie, 2011Calcium signalling is essential for most of the biological T-cell activities, including in Th2 lymphocytes, a T-cell subset that produce interleukin 4, 5 and 13 and which is involved in allergic diseases. T-cell receptor engagement induces the production of inositol trisphosphate that binds to its receptor, releasing intracellular Ca(2+) stores.

T Lymphocytes and Autoimmunity
2018T lymphocytes play a central role in regulation of the immune system. Both effector and regulatory T cells work in equilibrium to provide optimal immune response against foreign pathogens. Normally, T cells do not react against self-antigens because of the presence of central and peripheral immunogenic tolerance.

Immunology Today, 1982
A new era of cellular immunology is clearly at hand. It is now possible, with a little bit of effort, to isolate monoclonal populations of T cells specific for any given antigen. The implications o f this technological advance are enormous in terms of applications to basic research and clinical medicine.
