Closed string tachyon condensation revisited

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We consider condensation of nearly marginal matter tachyons in closed string field theory and observe that upon restricting to a subspace of states not containing the ghost dilaton, the on-shell value of the action is proportional to the shift of the ...

Finite temperature corrections to tachyon mass in intersecting D-branes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We continue with the analysis of finite temperature corrections to the Tachyon mass in intersecting branes which was initiated in [1]. In this paper we extend the computation to the case of intersecting D3 branes by considering a setup of two ...

Initial value problem in string-inspired nonlocal field theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
We consider a nonlocal scalar field theory inspired by the tachyon action in open string field theory. The Lorentz-covariant action is characterized by a parameter ξ 2 that quantifies the amount of nonlocality.

Tachyon Condensation and Black Hole Entropy [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2002
String propagation on a cone with deficit angle $2π(1-{1\over N})$ is considered for the purpose of computing the entropy of a large mass black hole. The entropy computed using the recent results on condensation of twisted-sector tachyons in this theory is found to be in precise agreement with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.

Carroll membranes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We explore Carroll limit corresponding to M2 as well as M3 branes propagating over 11D supergravity backgrounds in M theory. In the first part of the analysis, we introduce the membrane Carroll limit associated to M2 branes propagating over M theory ...

Quantum corrections for D-brane models with broken supersymmetry

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
Intersecting D-brane models and their T-dual magnetic compactifications yield attractive models of particle physics where magnetic flux plays a twofold role, being the source of fermion chirality as well as supersymmetry breaking.

Tachyon condensation on torus and T-duality [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2008
We find an exact solution, with a nonzero net D-brane charge, in the boundary string field theory of brane-anti-brane pairs on a torus. We explicitly take the T-dual of this configuration. The Nahm-transformation of the instantons is derived from the tachyon condensation.

Magnetic catalysis and the chiral condensate in holographic QCD

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We investigate the effect of a non-zero magnetic field on the chiral condensate using a holographic QCD approach. We extend the model proposed by Iatrakis, Kiritsis and Paredes in [1] that realises chiral symmetry breaking dynamically from 5d tachyon ...

Tachyon condensation on the brane antibrane system [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 1998
A coincident D-brane - anti-D-brane pair has a tachyonic mode. We present an argument showing that at the classical minimum of the tachyonic potential the negative energy density associated with the potential exactly cancels the sum of the tension of the brane and the anti-brane, thereby giving a configuration of zero energy density and restoring space-
