An integrated tactile-thermal robot sensor with capacitive tactile array

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2002
The paper discusses a tactile sensor system with high sampling resolution integrated with a thermal sensor. The integration is performed by using the column armature of the matrix of a capacitive tactile sensor as thermal resistor having positive temperature coefficient. A prototype of the sensor has been designed and constructed.

A Piezoresistive Tactile Sensor Array for Touchscreen Panels

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2018
Touchscreen panels (TSPs), as human-machine interfaces, have been ubiquitously adopted in our daily life, especially in consumer electronics and numerous industrial applications. However, the lack of sensing the force information in conventional TSPs draws compromises in gesture strategies and user experiences, leading to complex gestures, multi-level ...

Magnetostrictive tactile sensor array for force and stiffness detection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2020
The sense of touch, also known as tactile perception, enables enhanced ambient environment awareness for modern robots. Fe-Ga alloys have demonstrated great potential in tactile sensor applications due to their significant inverse magnetostrictive effect.

FERROPIEZOELECTRIC TACTILE SENSOR ARRAY

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1994
Abstract A ferroelectric array sensor of a functional type for primary processing of tactile information, representing a homogeneous field of sensors in an active PZT ceramic substrate, has been developed. The results, obtained by physical-mathematical simulation of certain array sensor element, which is a non resonance piezoelectrical transformer ...

Soft tactile sensor arrays for micromanipulation

2012 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2012
Micromanipulation methods used for complicated tasks such as microrobot assembly and microvascular surgery often lack the force reflection and contact localization capability necessary to achieve robust grasps of micro-scale objects without applying excessive forces.

A novel fiber optic tactile array sensor

Proceedings. 1987 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1987
A new robotic tactile sensor based on fiber optics is described. The sensor array is based on a matrix of optical fibers in perpendicular rows and columns separated by an elastomeric pad. The elastomer provides compliant response to normal force applied to the structure, and the magnitude of the force is measured by a change in transmitted light ...

Slip classification for dynamic tactile array sensors

The International Journal of Robotics Research, 2015
The manipulation of objects held in a robotic hand or gripper is accompanied by events such as making and breaking contact and slippage, between the fingertips and the grasped object and between the grasped object and external surfaces. Humans can distinguish among such events, in part, because they excite the various mechanoreceptors in the hands ...
