An Optical Tactile Array Sensor

SPIE Proceedings, 1985
This paper describes a new type of tactile sensor intended for robotic applications. It is based upon the frustration of total internal reflection at an optical surface caused by an opaque elastic membrane. An optical image is created in which the intensity is monotonically related to the strains or pressures created by an impressed object.

Psychological tactile sensor structure based on piezoelectric sensor arrays

2017 IEEE World Haptics Conference (WHC), 2017
Recently, artificial tactile sensors have been studied in attempts to mimic the human sense of touch for various applications, from the simple input function of mobile devices to the complicated finger systems of android robots. To produce artificial psychological feeling, especially ‘pain’, electrical mimic structure of human skin has been studied ...

Temperature Sensor Array for Tactile Sensation Using FBG Sensors

2006 5th IEEE Conference on Sensors, 2006
This paper describes a tactile sensor system which can detect distributed temperature and distributed force using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. The newly designed temperature sensor using FBG is introduced and the performance of this temperature sensor is evaluated.

Slip classification for dynamic tactile array sensors

The International Journal of Robotics Research, 2015
The manipulation of objects held in a robotic hand or gripper is accompanied by events such as making and breaking contact and slippage, between the fingertips and the grasped object and between the grasped object and external surfaces. Humans can distinguish among such events, in part, because they excite the various mechanoreceptors in the hands ...

A fiber optic microbend tactile sensor array

Sensors and Actuators, 1989
Abstract A new design for a fiber optic tactile sensor array is presented. In this design, optical fibers are used both as the actual force-sensing elements and as the signal-transmission media. The tactile array is formed by appropriately arranging fibers into four overlapping layers, two active layers sand- wiched between two corrugation layers ...

A tactile sensors array for biomedical applications

2008 5th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals and Devices, 2008
This paper describes a tactile sensor array for a typical biomedical applications. It is built on positioning a dedicated number of force sensors element which is based on Hall Effect devices. The whole sensing element were mounted on a polymer cylinder bases.

Object recognition using tactile image array sensors

Proceedings. 1986 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1986
The objective of this paper is to develop an object recognitlon system through the combination of 2-D tactile image array and visual sensors. A video camera is used to acquire a top view image of an object and two tactile sensing arrays mounted on a gripper are used to detect the tactile information about the lateral surfaces of the object.

An arbitrarily distributed tactile piezoelectric sensor array

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1998
This paper introduces a new principle and real structure of a non-scanning, fast response, arbitrarily distributed tactile sensor array using a piezoelectric resonator, and its application as a force/pressure sensor array. The piezoelectric sensor has a high mechanical quality factor and stability, and the quasidigital output can be measured easily and

Magnetostrictive Tactile Sensor Array for Object Recognition

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2019
Tactile sensing is used to explore and manipulate objects, which is essential for the interaction with the environment. A novel magnetostrictive tactile sensor array for use in robotic fingers based on smart material, Fe83Ga17 alloy (Galfenol), was proposed.

A stress-component-selective tactile sensor array

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1992
Abstract A stress-component-selective tactile array, based on piezoelectric polymers, and its associated data acquisition system are described. The seven-taxel sensor array is made up of elements sensitive to one or more components of the stress field acting upon them.
