Efficacy and outcome of expanded newborn screening for metabolic diseases - Report of 10 years from South-West Germany *

open access: yesOrphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, 2011
Background National newborn screening programmes based on tandem-mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and other newborn screening (NBS) technologies show a substantial variation in number and types of disorders included in the screening panel.

Electrospray and tandem mass spectrometry in biochemistry [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 2001
Over the last 20 years, biological MS has changed out of all recognition. This is primarily due to the development in the 1980s of ‘soft ionization’ methods that permit the ionization and vaporization of large, polar, and thermally labile biomolecules.

O estado da arte da cromatografia associada à espectrometria de massas acoplada à espectrometria de massas na análise de compostos tóxicos em alimentos The state of the art of chromatography associated with the tandem mass spectrometry for toxic compound analyses in food

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2008
Chromatography combined with several different detection systems is one of the more used and better performing analytical tools. Chromatography with tandem mass spectrometric detection gives highly selective and sensitive analyses and permits obtaining ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Monolysocardiolipin in cultured fibroblasts is a sensitive and specific marker for Barth Syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
Barth Syndrome (BTHS) is an X-linked recessive disorder that results in abnormal metabolism of the mitochondrial phospholipid cardiolipin (CL). CLs are decreased and monolysocardiolipins (MLCLs), intermediates in CL metabolism, are increased in a variety

MS²PIP: a tool for MS/MS peak intensity prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Motivation: Tandem mass spectrometry provides the means tomatch mass spectrometry signal observations with the chemical entities that generated them. The technology produces signal spectra that contain information about the chemical dissociation pattern ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
