Sodium restriction improves the gustatory threshold for salty taste in patients with chronic kidney disease

open access: yesKidney International, 2009
Sodium restriction is important in the treatment of chronic kidney disease; however, it is sometimes difficult to achieve. Decreased taste sensitivity may be a factor influencing inadequate control of oral salt intake and subsequent high blood pressure ...

Taste thresholds of phenylthiocarbamate

Behavior Genetics, 1974
The common frequency of the nontasting gene for phenylthiocarbamate (about 28%) has been found both in Indian adults and in Indian children aged between 6 and 11 years. However, a much lower frequency (less than 11%) was obtained when both Turkish adults and Turkish children aged between 6 and 11 years were tested. On the other hand.

Taste Thresholds in Twins and Siblings

Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae, 1967
SummaryMonozygotic twin (MZ), dizygotic twin (DZ), and sibling (SIB) pairs were taste-tested for hydrochloric acid, 1-quinine sulfate, and 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP). The numbers of pairs involved were 75 MZ, 70 DZ, and 78 SIB, for the latter two compounds; 26, 45, and 45, respectively, for the acid. There was a significant difference in intrapair ...

Taste thresholds in patients with dentures

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1967
Results of a study to evaluate the effect of palate-covering dentures on taste sensitivity indicate that the palate affects the taste of sour and bitter. Perhaps this factor should be considered in the design of maxillary dentures.

Effect of Altitude on Taste Thresholds

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1972
This study was designed to evaluate what effect altitude has on a person's ability to detect the four basic tastes (salt, sour, bitter, and sweet). Increasing molar concentrations of compounds representative of the four tastes were presented to a 6-member panel and their threshold value for each taste determined.

Taste thresholds and caries experience

Journal of Dentistry, 1979
Taste thresholds for sucrose and quinine have been examined in over one hundred subjects aged between 6 and 25 years. The thresholds were not related to the caries experience in this population. Sucrose thresholds were not related to quinine thresholds. There was a trend for sucrose activity to diminish with age.
