NaCl thresholds in man: Thresholds for water taste or NaCl taste?
Journal of Comparative and Physiological Psychology, 1974Water is not tasteless to man. Water can produce any of the 4 basic taste qualities if it is preceded by adaptation to an appropriate substance. After adaptation to the NaCl in saliva, water tastes predominantly bitter. In detection threshold experiments, this bitter water taste can be confused with solute tastes so that some detection thresholds for ...

Taste thresholds for salt in fasting patients
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1975Since it has been controversial whether in man changes in taste sensitivity for salt occur in relation to changes in extracellular volume, as has been described in animals, we assessed saline acuity in human volunteers undergoing a predictable pattern of external sodium balance.

Taste Thresholds for Bitterness and Cigarette Smoking
Nature, 1964A SIGNIFICANT correlation has been reported between taste sensitivity for bitter-tasting compounds such as quinine and number of reported foods disliked1. Cigarette smoking has also been observed to be associated with the bitter taste threshold variable2,3.

Reliability of electrogustometry for the estimation of taste thresholds
Clinical Otolaryngology and Allied Sciences, 2000Electrogustometry has been used as a clinical tool for diagnosis and assessment of a variety of conditions. Several studies which have estimated electrogustometric taste threshold have reported good test-retest reliability but there is some evidence that thresholds measured this way may decrease with practice.

Salt Taste Thresholds and Cystic Fibrosis
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1964A great deal of interest has been shown in the sodium chloride taste threshold in humans and its significance, particularly in regard to various disease states, such as cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, 6 adrenal cortical insufficiency, 7 etc. Many methods have been employed for determining the human salt taste threshold, but the lack of a uniform or ...

Phenylthiocarbamide taste thresholds in the population of Thailand
Human Genetics, 1970Determination of taste thresholds for phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) in 460 healthy subjects from northern Thailand showed 9.7 percent non-tasters. There was no difference in the proportion of non-tasters between males and females but among tasters females had somewhat higher taste thresholds.

A Genetic Analysis of Taste Threshold for Phenylthiocarbamide
Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae: twin research, 1981Taste threshold for phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) was measured in 393 offspring from the families of 85 monozygotic (MZ) twin pairs. PTC scores were bimodally distributed with modes at one and eight and the antimode at five. Because of the non-normality of the distribution, a jackknife procedure was used to obtain 95% confidence intervals for the estimates

Terbinafine-Associated Taste Disturbance with Normal Taste Threshold Scores
Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2001The medical literature reveals numerous reports of transient taste disturbance associated with the use of oral terbinafine. A review of these reports, however, fails to confirm taste disturbances by formal taste testing. In this article, a case of long-standing taste dysfunction in a patient who exhibited normal formal taste thresholds is described. (J
