In Situ pH Determination Using 1H‐MRS Acetate Chemical Shift for Noninvasive Postmortem Examinations

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 7, July 2026.
The chemical‐shift difference between acetate and myo‐inositol measured by MRS enables estimation of pH in the acidic range. Noninvasive pH assessment in forensic investigations is demonstrated in 58 cases and validated by measurements in extracted tissue.

From extracellular entry to intracellular release: A water‐assisted transport cycle for creatine in SLC6A8

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The creatine transporter (CRT/SLC6A8) plays a key role in cellular energy homeostasis, yet the molecular mechanism underlying creatine transport remains poorly understood. Here, we reconstruct the complete transport cycle of human CRT using a hybrid simulation strategy that combines constant‐force steered molecular dynamics (cf‐sMD) with ...

Exploring the Impact of Polystyrene Microplastic Beads on Male Gonads of the Marine Mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, Volume 41, Issue 7, Page 379-394, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Plastic, with its remarkable versatility and numerous applications, has greatly benefited humanity. However, its extreme resistance to natural degradation means it persists in the environment for long periods, causing global environmental problems.

Reactive Oxygen Species‐Induced Damage in Cryopreserved Bovine Sperm: Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
Cryopreservation of bovine sperm results in overproduction of ROS due to osmotic pressure variations, ice crystals and dysfunction of mitochondria, which causes lipid peroxidation, fragmentation of DNA, protein damage and ultimately decline of post‐thaw sperm quality.

Insights from a 6‐year hair drug analysis compendium in drug‐facilitated sexual assault cases

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 4, Page 1783-1792, July 2026.
Abstract Drug‐facilitated sexual assault (DFSA) may involve a diverse array of substances, including illicit drugs, prescription medications, and over‐the‐counter pharmaceuticals. Hair analysis has emerged as a valuable forensic tool, offering an extended window of detection spanning several months. However, interpreting drug concentrations in hair can
