Influence of plasma density gradient on the tearing mode with the poloidal shear flow

open access: yesAIP Advances
The influence of the plasma density gradient on the m/n = 2/1 and m/n = 4/1 (m is the poloidal mode number and n is the toroidal mode number) tearing mode instability with poloidal flow and flow shear is investigated.

Tearing Mode in a Heliotron Plasma [PDF]

open access: yesTearing Mode in a Heliotron Plasma
0000-0002-7698-0223 Tearing mode is studied in a heliotron plasma by varying the net toroidal current. Ideal internal kink mode can be unstable when two resonant magnetic surfaces are generated. The tearing mode is found at the current below the marginal stability value for the ideal internal kink mode.

The physics of a collisionless micro-scale tearing mode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Microtearing modes and electron temperature gradient modes are two types of micro-instability that are driven by the electron temperature gradient in magnetised plasmas.

Current sheets in the solar corona : formation, fragmentation and heating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this thesis we investigate current sheets in the solar corona. The well known 1D model for the tearing mode instability is presented, before progressing to 2D where we introduce a non-uniform resistivity.

Direct Evidence of Magnetic Reconnection Onset via the Tearing Instability

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
Magnetic reconnection is a sporadic process responsible for energy release in space and laboratory plasmas. It is believed that the tearing mode instability may be responsible for the onset of reconnection in the magnetotail.

3D reconnection due to oblique modes: a simulation of Harris current sheets [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2000
Simulations in three dimensions of a Harris current sheet with mass ratio, mi/me = 180, and current sheet thickness, pi/L = 0.5, suggest the existence of a linearly unstable oblique mode, which is independent from either the drift-kink or the tearing ...

Resistive instabilities in toroidal anisotropic plasmas

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
Resistive singular layer equations are developed by applying the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model to toroidal anisotropic plasmas. This work extends the previous ideal MHD theory [Shi et al. Phys. Plasmas 23, 082121 (2016)] to the resistive case.

Hall resistive tearing mode: A variational formulation

open access: yes, 2008
A unified linear tearing-mode formulation is given incorporating both resistivity and Hall effects. A variational method is used that appears to be best suited to deal with the difficulties peculiar to the triple-deck structure associated with the Hall ...

Influence of two simultaneous driven currents on multiple tearing modes in tokamak plasmas

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
The influence of two driven currents simultaneously and respectively imposed on the m/n = 2/1 and 3/2 resistive tearing modes in tokamak plasmas is researched by using a three-dimensional toroidal magnetohydrodynamic code CLT. The simulation results show
