Tearing mode stability in 1D and 2D [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Physics Communications, 1981
Abstract A stability code for tearing modes in 1D and 2D straight equilibria in the tokamak scaling has been developed. It finds the lowest eigenvalues of a Hermitian problem which is obtained analytically by a reduction of the full problem. The main advantage is the powerful handling of equilibria with several resonant surfaces and displaying ...

open access: yes, 2023
Submitted for publication in Physics of Plasmasm, n = 2, 1 tearing mode onset empirical probability and machine learning analyses of a multiscenario DIII-D database of over 14 000 H- mode discharges show that the normalized plasma beta, the rotation ...

Nonlinear evolution of the resistive tearing mode [PDF]

open access: yesThe Physics of Fluids, 1984
The nonlinear behavior of the tearing instability is investigated with numerical solutions of the resistive, incompressible, magnetohydrodynamic equations. Simulations have been completed for values of the Lundquist number S from 102 to 106 and wavelength parameter α=2πa/λ from 0.042 to 0.5.

Magnetic driving energy of the tearing mode [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The change in the magnetic energy density produced by a tearing mode is calculated exactly. The driving energy for the mode is found to come entirely from the region inside the tearing layer, although there is also a displacement of energy in the outer ...

Explosive dynamics of double tearing mode in Tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Using the CLT code, the resistivity dependence of the reconnection rate during the explosive phase at various separations of two rational surfaces of m / n = 3/1 double tearing mode is investigated quantitatively.

Control of Neoclassical Tearing Modes by Sawtooth Control [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2002
The onset of a neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) depends on the existence of a large enough seed island. It is shown in the Joint European Torus that NTMs can be readily destabilized by long-period sawteeth, such as obtained by sawtooth stabilization from ion-cyclotron heating or current drive. This has important implications for burning plasma scenarios,

Neoclassical Tearing Modes [PDF]

open access: yesFusion Science and Technology, 2004
Tearing modes often limit the performance of tokamak plasmas, because the magnetic islands which they generate lead to a loss of confinement, or even a disruption.

Fracture Toughness of Reactive Powder Fibrous Concrete Composites under Pure and Mixed Modes (I/III)

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
Reactive Powder Concretes (RPC) are well known for their exceptional strength properties and durability properties. The use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) is the best way to enhance the strength and durability characteristics of RPCs ...

RESISTIVE MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMICS SIMULATIONS OF THE IDEAL TEARING MODE [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
We study the linear and nonlinear evolution of the tearing instability on thin current sheets by means of two-dimensional numerical simulations, within the framework of compressible, resistive magnetohydrodynamics. In particular we analyze the behavior of current sheets whose inverse aspect ratio scales with the Lundquist number $S$ as $S^{-1/3}$. This

Effect of Heating on the Suppression of Tearing Modes in Tokamaks [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
The suppression of (neoclassical) tearing modes is of great importance for the success of future fusion reactors like ITER. Electron cyclotron waves can suppress islands, both by driving noninductive current in the island region and by heating the island, causing a perturbation to the Ohmic plasma current.
