Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

DLTM: a deep learning method for tearing mode simulation and prediction
Tearing modes are harmful magnetohydrodynamic instabilities in tokamaks that reduce plasma confinement by altering the magnetic field and forming magnetic islands.

Toward 3D MHD modeling of neoclassical tearing mode suppression by ECCD
We propose a framework to extend the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations to include electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) and discuss previous models proposed by Giruzzi et al. [2] and by Hegna and Callen [3].

Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Recent MHD simulations find that the reversal of the local resistive interchange parameter $D_\mathrm{R}$ from negative to positive due to impurity radiation cooling is able to linearly destabilize the resistive tearing mode (TM) growth in a tokamak ...

Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

The physics of a small-scale tearing mode in collisionless slab plasmas [PDF]
Microtearing modes have been widely reported as a tearing parity electron temperature gradient driven plasma instability that leads to fine scale tearing of the magnetic flux surfaces thereby resulting in reconnection of magnetic field lines and ...

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Tearing Mode in a Heliotron Plasma [PDF]
0000-0002-7698-0223Tearing mode is studied in a heliotron plasma by varying the net toroidal current. Ideal internal kink mode can be unstable when two resonant magnetic surfaces are generated.
