Bismuth tellurides and sulphosalts from the Larga hydrothermal system, Metaliferi Mts., Romania: Paragenesis and genetic significance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
© 2004 Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and IrelandIntermediate levels of the Larga-Fata Baii field, Metaliferi Mts., Romania, are host to epithermal vein mineralization, small skarn-like bodies and ‘geode’-like replacement ores, that together form

Understanding amorphous phase-change materials from the viewpoint of Maxwell rigidity

open access: yes, 2009
Phase-change materials (PCMs) are the subject of considerable interest because they have been recognized as potential active layers for next-generation non-volatile memory devices, known as Phase Change Random Access Memories (PRAMs).

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Effects of phase transitions in devices actuated by the electromagnetic vacuum force

open access: yes, 2008
We study the influence of the electromagnetic vacuum force on the behaviour of a model device based on materials, like germanium tellurides, that undergo fast and reversible metal-insulator transitions on passing from the crystalline to the amorphous ...

Dual regimes of ion migration in high repetition rate femtosecond laser inscribed waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ion migration in high repetition rate femtosecond laser inscribed waveguides is currently being reported in different optical glasses. For the first time we discuss and experimentally demonstrate the presence of two regimes of ion migration found in ...

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Optical properties of the charge-density-wave polychalcogenide compounds $R_2$Te$_5$ ($R$=Nd, Sm and Gd)

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate the rare-earth polychalcogenide $R_2$Te$_5$ ($R$=Nd, Sm and Gd) charge-density-wave (CDW) compounds by optical methods. From the absorption spectrum we extract the excitation energy of the CDW gap and estimate the fraction of the Fermi ...

Increased Endurance of Nonvolatile Photonics Enabled by Nanostructured Phase‐Change Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Tapered and segmented islands of the phase‐change material (PCM) antimony selenide (Sb2Se3) integrated on silicon microring resonators enable ultra‐low‐loss, high‐endurance, non‐volatile photonic tuning. The nanostructured PCM design suppresses interfacial scattering and thermal stress, achieving record endurance over 100 million electrical switching ...

Differential genotoxicity of diphenyl diselenide (PhSe)2 and diphenyl ditelluride (PhTe)2 [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2014
Organoselenium compounds have been pointed out as therapeutic agents. In contrast, the potential therapeutic aspects of tellurides have not yet been demonstrated.

Rich structural phase diagram and thermoelectric properties of layered tellurides Mo1-xNbxTe2

open access: yes, 2015
MoTe2 is a rare transition-metal ditelluride having two kinds of layered polytypes, hexagonal structure with trigonal prismatic Mo coordination and monoclinic structure with octahedral Mo coordination. The monoclinic distortion in the latter is caused by
