Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Encapsulation technique eliminates thermal stresses in welded electronic modules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Encapsulation technique minimizes embedment and thermal stresses in welded electronic modules. A coating of thinned room-temperature- vulcanizing silicone rubber having a high coefficient of expansion and flexibility at low temperature, is applied first ...

Temperature Dependence of the Index of Refraction of Fused Silica

open access: yes, 1997
In order to explain the positive temperature coefficient of the visible index of refraction of fused silica I develop a simple model which assumes a single ultraviolet resonance.

Anomalous Thermoelectric Response in an Orbital-Ordered Oxide Near and Far from Equilibrium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report the thermoelectric transport properties in the orbital-ordered Mott insulating phase of Ca$_2$RuO$_4$ close to and far from equilibrium. Near equilibrium conditions where the temperature gradient is only applied to the sample, an insulating but

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Effect of time-temperature binomial in obtaining biochemical oxygen demand of different wastewaters [PDF]

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2014
Studies on the effects of temperature and time of incubation of wastewater samples for the estimation of biodegradable organic matter through the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), that nowadays are rare, considering that the results of the classic study ...

Correlation between thermal expansion and heat capacity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Theoretically predicted linear correlation between the volume coefficient of thermal expansion and the thermal heat capacity was investigated for highly symmetrical atomic arrangements.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Effects of gluon damping rate on the viscosity coefficient of the quark-gluon plasma at finite chemical potential

open access: yes, 1997
By considering the Debye screening and damping rate of gluons, the viscosity coefficient of the quark-gluon plasma was evaluated via real-time finite temperature QCD in the relaxation time approximation at finite temperature and chemical potential .

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
