Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Atmospheric Feedbacks Reverse the Sensitivity of Modeled Photosynthesis to Stomatal Function

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
Stomata mediate fluxes of carbon and water between terrestrial plants and the atmosphere. These fluxes are governed by stomatal function and can be modulated in many Earth system models by an empirical parameter within the calculation of stomatal ...

Broadband Magnetometry and Temperature Sensing with a Light Trapping Diamond Waveguide

open access: yes, 2014
Solid-state quantum sensors are attracting wide interest because of their exceptional sensitivity at room temperature. In particular, the spin properties of individual nitrogen vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond make it an outstanding nanoscale sensor

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Height‐Dependent Sensitivity of Cloud Scales to Surface Temperature Anomaly Observed by Active Satellites

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
As a key macrophysical property, cloud horizontal scale plays a critical role in cloud radiative effect (CRE), precipitation and convective structures.

Composite polymer membranes for laserinduced fluorescence thermometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We demonstrate a modified version of laser-induced fluorescence thermometry (LIFT) for mapping temperature gradients in the vicinity of small photothermal devices.

An optical fiber tip micrograting thermometer

open access: yes, 2011
An ~12 µm long Bragg grating was engraved in an ~5 µm diameter optical fiber tip by focused ion beam (FIB) milling. An ~10-dB extinction was achieved at 1570 nm with only 11 indentations.

Effect of polymer matrix on temperature sensitivity of temperature sensitive paints

open access: yesChinese Journal of Polymer Science, 2015
The thermal quenching behaviors of the temperature sensitivity paints (TSP) composed of europium(III) thenoyltrifluoroacetonate (EuTTA) and Eu-phenanthrene complex (Eu-2) in polystyrene (PS), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and epoxy resin (EP) were investigated.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
