Testing for zero-inflation in count series: application to occupational health
Count data series with extra zeros relative to a Poisson distribution are common in many biomedical applications. A score test is presented to assess whether the zero-inflation problem is significant to warrant the analysis by the more complex zero ...

FiN‐Kiri: Fabric‐Based Inflatable Kirigami Actuator for Multimodal Soft Robots
This study introduces a type of inflatable fabric‐based kirigami actuator capable of performing bending motion. The actuator is utilized as soft grippers, a crawling robot and a swimming robot. The crawling robot demonstrated extraordinary motion capabilities, such as moving forward, turning and navigating a narrow tunnel.

Application of the Generalized Propensity Score. Evaluation of public contributions to Piedmont enterprises. [PDF]
In this article, we apply a generalization of the propensity score of Rosenbaum and Rubin (1983b). Techniques based on the propensity score have long been used for causal inference in observational studies for reducing bias caused by non-random treatment

Beyond the p < 0.05 trap: the adaptive integrity model for preventing and detecting P-hacking
When statistical significance becomes the currency of publication, the incentive to reach p < 0.05 can subtly shape research behavior. While many researchers report their findings with integrity, others face implicit pressures that increase the ...

Perivascular matrix densification promotes the emergence of aberrant endothelial tip cells (ATECs) that invade and persist within fibrotic microenvironments. Using in vivo lineage tracing and a human microvessel model, this study shows that fibrous matrix cues destabilize VE‐cadherin–mediated junctions to gate TGF‐β signaling, inducing a pro ...

Perspective: Hollow Core Optical Fibres for Ultraviolet and Visible Wavelengths
Hollow core optical fibres bypass material constraints that limit optical fibres at ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. However, their challenging fabrication has limited their development, and significant gains in performance remain possible. In this perspective we outline approaches to enable the next generation of fibres for shorter wavelengths ...
