Exosomes From Intestinal Epithelial Cells Promote Hepatic Differentiation of Liver Progenitor Cells in Gut‐Liver‐on‐a‐Chip Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The effects of intestinal epithelial cells and their exosomes on the hepatic differentiation of HPCs are explored in a gut‐liver‐on‐a‐chip. Exosomes from intestinal epithelial cells improve liver fibrosis. Moreover, the miR‐371‐373 cluster in the exosomes may mediate this effect by regulating the hepatic differentiation of HPCs.

Testosterone increases the virulence traits of uropathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the most common cause of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in humans. Testosterone negatively impacts UTIs by affecting the immune response, leading to higher susceptibility of chronic cystitis in individuals with ...

Current Routine Testosterone Immunoassays Are Unsuitable for Lowering the General Castration Cutoff Recommendation to <0.7 nmol/l (20 ng/dl)

open access: yesEuropean Urology Open Science, 2023
Testosterone measurements are essential in the management of patients with prostate cancer undergoing castration and androgen deprivation therapy. There has been an ongoing discussion on the testosterone castration cutoff (TCC), with the primary focus on

A Super‐Enhancer‐Driven Transcriptional Regulatory Circuit Underlying Abiraterone Resistance in Castration‐Resistant Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a super‐enhancer‐driven transcriptional regulatory circuit comprising BCL6, SMAD3, and NFIB that cooperate to drive cholesterol synthesis via SREBF2/HMGCR/FDFT1 activation and regulate CDK2/CCND3 for cell cycle control. Targeting this circuit with BI‐3802 or downstream inhibitors (Fatostatin/Lovastatin) overcomes abiraterone ...

Testosterone and the Heart [PDF]

open access: yesMethodist DeBakey Cardiovascular Journal, 2017
Testosterone (T) has a number of important effects on the cardiovascular system. In men, T levels begin to decrease after age 40, and this decrease has been associated with an increase in all-cause mortality and cardiovascular (CV) risk. Low T levels in men may increase their risk of developing coronary artery disease (CAD), metabolic syndrome, and ...

Testosterone Delays Bone Microstructural Destruction via Osteoblast‐Androgen Receptor‐Mediated Upregulation of Tenascin‐C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Testosterone–Androgen Receptor signaling delays elderly male bone destruction by upregulation of the osteoblastic extracellular tenascin‐C (TNC). The osteoprotective effect of fibrinogen C‐terminus of TNC is demonstrated in male osteoporotic mice model that osteoblast‐specific Ar‐knockout, potentially via inhibition of ...
