Testing modified Newtonian dynamics in the Milky Way [PDF]
Modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) is an empirical theory originally proposed to explain the rotation curves of spiral galaxies by modifying the gravitational acceleration, rather than by invoking dark matter.

Clusters and mirages: cataloguing stellar aggregates in the Milky Way [PDF]
Context. Many of the open clusters listed in modern catalogues were initially reported by visual astronomers as apparent overdensities of bright stars. As observational techniques and analysis methods continue to improve, some of them have been shown to ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Watching Our Galaxy Grow Up: The Mass and Color Evolution of the Milky Way
Using our rich observations within the Milky Way to better understand galaxy evolution requires understanding what the Milky Way looks like “as a galaxy”—that is, its “true” shape and abundance profiles (unskewed by observational biases), signatures of ...

How Common are the Magellanic Clouds? [PDF]
We introduce a probabilistic approach to the problem of counting dwarf satellites around host galaxies in databases with limited redshift information.

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Rising from the Ashes: A Metallicity-dependent Star Formation Gap Splits the Milky Way’s α Sequences
The elemental abundance distribution of stars encodes the history of the gas-phase abundance in the Milky Way. Without a large, unbiased sample of highly precise stellar ages, the exact timing and nature of this history must be inferred from the ...

The search for metal-free stars has so far been unsuccessful, proving that if there are surviving stars from the first generation, they are rare, they have been polluted, or we have been looking in the wrong place.

Dynamical heating across the Milky Way disc using APOGEE and Gaia [PDF]
The kinematics of the Milky Way disc as a function of age are well measured at the solar radius, but have not been studied over a wider range of Galactocentric radii.

Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
