Thelohanellus kitauei and Thelohanellus hovorkai are myxozoan parasites pathogenic in cyprinid fish especially adult Israel carp and common carp. In the present study, the complete 18S rRNA-ITS1-5.8S rRNA-ITS2 sequences of these two Thelohanellus species were cloned with primers designed from information from Genbank and previous studies.

Thelohanellus mrigalae Tripathi, 1952 is the important myxosporean parasites causing hemorrhagic thelohanellosis disease in Cirrhinus mrigala, a fresh water teleost. Infected fishes show profound swelling, formation of pus, cyst on gill filament and infiltration of pathogen into connective tissue.

Thelohanellus nikolskii Akhmerov, 1955 is a non-native myxosporean parasite that was originally described in eastern Russia and Vietnam (ZHANG et al., 2013). The life cycle of T. nikolskii has two phases. The aurantiactinospore phase takes place in an annelid host (Tubifex tubifex) while the myxospore phase occurs in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio ...
