Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

‘I just thought that it was such an impossible thing’: A qualitative study of barriers and facilitators to discontinuing long‐term use of benzodiazepine receptor agonists using the Theoretical Domains Framework

open access: yesHealth Expectations, 2022
Introduction Existing interventions to reduce long‐term benzodiazepine receptor agonist (BZRA) use lack theoretical underpinning and detailed descriptions.

Barriers and enablers to health care providers assessment and treatment of knee osteoarthritis in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A qualitative study using the Theoretical Domains Framework

open access: yesOsteoarthritis and Cartilage Open, 2022
Objectives: Symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) commonly co-exists in persons with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and may impede diabetes self-management. Yet, OA is often underdiagnosed and undertreated due to competing health care demands.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Exploring attitudinal barriers to participation in inpatient fall risk assessment using the Theoretical Domains Framework: A survey of providers

open access: yesHealth Science Reports
Background and Aims Lack of provider (physicians and advanced practice providers) participation in fall risk assessment was theorized to be contributing to rising rates of falls with injury at our institution.

Mapping of Modifiable Factors with Interdisciplinary Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Guidelines Adherence to the Theoretical Domains Framework: A Systematic Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background: COPD guidelines non-concordance is a challenge frequently highlighted by respiratory experts. Despite the provision of comprehensive evidence-based national and international guidelines, the COPD burden to frontline healthcare services has ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status
