REGIONAL COMPETITIVENESS OF REGIONS (CONCEPT - PILLARS - STRATEGIES AND THEORIES) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Al-Azhar University Engineering Sector, 2019
The regional competitiveness aims to achieve balanced growth in line with theresources available in the region, as it means: the ability of the region to exploit all theresources and components existing in the region to optimize utilization, to provide anenvironment conducive to development activities, with the aim of achieving a betterstandard of ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Regional Income Disparities in Canada: Implications for Theories of Regional Convergence [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Regional Studies, 1996
Traditional regional convergence theory has come under serious scrutiny in view of the recent divergence in regional incomes in the U.S. during the eighties. Neither the neoclassical theory of a steady decline in regional disparities over time nor Kuznets’ inverted-U hypothesis can satisfactorily explain regional divergence in an advanced industrial ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Are all beliefs equal? Implicit belief attributions recruiting core brain regions of theory of mind.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Humans possess efficient mechanisms to behave adaptively in social contexts. They ascribe goals and beliefs to others and use these for behavioural predictions. Researchers argued for two separate mental attribution systems: an implicit and automatic one

On the Complementarity of F-theory, Orientifolds, and Heterotic Strings [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We study F-theory duals of six dimensional heterotic vacua in extreme regions of moduli space where the heterotic string is very strongly coupled. We demonstrate how to use orientifold limits of these F-theory duals to regain a perturbative string ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Cosmological correlators in massless ϕ 4-theory and the method of regions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
The calculation of loop corrections to the correlation functions of quantum fields during inflation or in the de Sitter background presents greater challenges than in flat space due to the more complicated form of the mode functions.

Socio-Economic Status of Russia’s Median Region

open access: yesProstranstvennaâ Èkonomika, 2005
Theoretical conclusions have been made as to the character and key features of a region’s «median position» and their influence on the main objectives and tendencies in managing the development of such regions.

On asymptotic dark energy in string theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We examine bounds on accelerated expansion in asymptotic regions of the moduli space in string theory compactifications to four spacetime dimensions. While there are conjectures that forbid or constrain accelerated expansion in such asymptotic regions ...
