Image-guided therapy using maghemite-MOF nanovectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Advances in nanotechnology offer the possibility of tailored delivery of therapeutics with real-time imaging of disease. In this issue of Chem, Steunou and co-workers amalgamate the powerful MRI properties of ultra-small paramagnetic iron oxides with the

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

Stress Granule Dysregulation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2020
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with no current cure. ALS causes degeneration of both upper and lower motor neurons leading to atrophy of the innervating muscles and progressive paralysis.

HCI considerations in Designing a Second Life Virtual Therapeutic Community for the Support & Treatment of People with Borderline Personality Disorder [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
This paper aims to present the current position of the ongoing research into developing the requirements and acceptance of a virtual therapeutic community in Second Life, specifically for people with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The research has identified this particular user group given that people with BPD often require high levels of ...

The changing face of cancer therapeutics improved : outcome and decreased toxicity with Molecular Targeted Drugs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The treatment of patients with cancer has largely involved the administration of cytotoxic drugs with narrow therapeutic indices, with little selectivity for cancer cells over normal proliferating cells.

Clinical applications of next‐generation sequencing‐based ctDNA analyses in breast cancer: defining treatment targets and dynamic changes during disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Fc-engineered large molecules targeting blood-brain barrier transferrin receptor and CD98hc have distinct central nervous system and peripheral biodistribution

open access: yesNature Communications
Blood brain barrier-crossing molecules targeting transferrin receptor (TfR) and CD98 heavy chain (CD98hc) are widely reported to promote enhanced brain delivery of therapeutics.
