Developing Predictive Molecular Maps of Human Disease through Community-based Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The failure of biology to identify the molecular causes of disease has led to disappointment in the rate of development of new medicines. By combining the power of community-based modeling with broad access to large datasets on a platform that promotes ...

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Ready-to-use iPSC-derived microglia progenitors for the treatment of CNS disease in mouse models of neuropathic mucopolysaccharidoses

open access: yesNature Communications
Mucopolysaccharidoses are inherited metabolic disorders caused by the deficiency in lysosomal enzymes required to break down glycosaminoglycans. Accumulation of glycosaminoglycans leads to progressive, systemic degenerative disease.

Host Immune Responses to Surface S-Layer Proteins (SLPs) of Clostridioides difficile

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Clostridioides difficile, a nosocomial pathogen, is an emerging gut pathobiont causing antibiotic-associated diarrhea. C. difficile infection involves gut colonization and disruption of the gut epithelial barrier, leading to the induction of inflammatory/

Picoliter-volume inkjet printing into planar microdevice reservoirs for low-waste, high-capacity drug loading. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Oral delivery of therapeutics is the preferred route for systemic drug administration due to ease of access and improved patient compliance. However, many therapeutics suffer from low oral bioavailability due to low pH and enzymatic conditions, poor ...

Fluorescence-based quantification of messenger RNA and plasmid DNA decay kinetics in extracellular biological fluids and cell extracts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Extracellular and intracellular degradation of nucleic acids remains an issue in non-viral gene therapy. Understanding biodegradation is critical for the rational design of gene therapeutics in order to maintain stability and functionality at the target ...

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.
