Acyl CoA-binding protein in brown adipose tissue acts as a negative regulator of adaptive thermogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism
Objective: Defective activity of brown adipose tissue (BAT) is linked to obesity and cardiometabolic diseases. While much is known regarding the biological signals that trigger BAT thermogenesis, relatively little is known about the repressors that may ...

Mechanism of Cold-induced Thermogenesis

open access: yes, 2017
Cold-induced thermogenesis is an energy-demanding process that protects warm-blooded animals against reductions in ambient temperature. Villanueva and colleagues demonstrated that in response to cold, the liver switches metabolism to provide ...

Dual Glucagon and GLP‐1 Receptor Agonist Survodutide Improves Biomarkers of Beta‐Cell Function and Insulin Sensitivity in People With Type 2 Diabetes or Living With Overweight/Obesity

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims This post hoc analysis evaluated the effect of survodutide on beta‐cell function, insulin sensitivity, and glucose biomarkers in two phase 2 trial populations. Materials and Methods Trial 1404‐0002 randomised 413 participants with type 2 diabetes on metformin to receive survodutide, placebo, or semaglutide over 16 weeks.

Nonshivering thermogenesis and its adequate measurement in metabolic studies

open access: yes, 2011
Summary Alterations in nonshivering thermogenesis are presently discussed as being both potentially causative of and able to counteract obesity.

The malate–aspartate shuttle supports thermogenic lipid mobilization in brown adipocytes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Brown fat cells burn lipids within their mitochondria to generate heat. This process involves two energy “shuttles,” one of which is naturally blocked during heat production. We found that the second shuttle (MASh) is not required to generate heat. However, when MASh is disabled, the fatty acids meant for fuel are instead converted back into stored fat.

Thermogenic Adipocytes Promote M2 Macrophage Polarization through CNNM4‐Mediated Mg Secretion

open access: yesAdvanced Science
M2 macrophages promote adipose tissue thermogenesis which dissipates energy in the form of heat to combat obesity. However, the regulation of M2 macrophages by thermogenic adipocytes is unclear.

Ontogeny of non-shivering thermogenesis in Muscovy ducklings (Cairina moschata)

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceIn precocial birds, developing the capacity for early regulatory thermogenesis appears as a fundamental prerequi- site for survival and growth in cold environments.

ADAM17 and its proteolytic targets in disease pathogenesis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
ADAM17 as a multifunctional sheddase with contrasting roles across inflammatory, metabolic, cardiovascular, and neoplastic diseases. Through regulated activation by iRhom, iTAP/FRMD8, and tetraspanins, ADAM17 cleaves diverse membrane ligands and receptors, thereby promoting inflammation, fibrosis, obesity, insulin resistance, and tumor progression ...

Akebia Saponin D Targeting Ubiquitin Carboxyl‐Terminal Hydrolase 4 Promotes Peroxisome Proliferator‐Activated Receptor Gamma Deubiquitination and Activation of Brown Adipose Tissue Thermogenesis in Obesity

open access: yesMedComm
Promoting thermogenesis in adipose tissue to enhance energy expenditure is widely regarded as a promising strategy for obesity treatment. However, the development of effective thermogenic drugs remains challenging.
