Thermostability of cytomegalovirus strains
Archiv für die gesamte Virusforschung, 1968Cytomegalovirus (CMV) has been considered a difficult virus to isolate and study because of its apparent lability. Investigations of the thermostability of strains have yielded discrepant results, some of which appear to be due to the diluents used. The stability of three CMV strains at 37°, 25° and 3°C has been studied here.

Publisher Summary This chapter describes DNA polymerases of mesophiles and covers DNA polymerases of thermophilic Eubacteria and Archaea. It covers both thermophiles, organisms that grow optimally in the range of 50–70oC, but not at 90oC, and hyperthermophiles, organisms with an optimal growth temperature of at least 80°C, which also grow at 90°C ...

Protein engineering for thermostability
Trends in Biotechnology, 1990Studies with small, monomeric proteins indicate that, to some extent, the effects of amino acid substitutions can be predicted. However, conformational and other changes may complicate the prediction. Site-directed mutagenesis is leading both to a better understanding of protein stability and to the production of more stable proteins.

Thermotolerant and thermostable laccases
Biotechnology Letters, 2009Laccases are phenol-oxidizing, usually four-copper containing metalloenzymes. For industrial and biotechnological purposes, laccases were among the first fungal oxidoreductases providing larger-scale applications such as removal of polyphenols in wine and beverages, conversion of toxic compounds and textile dyes in waste waters, and in bleaching and ...

AbstractTechnologies that promise to enhance the stability of vaccines are likely to be determined by the product-specific physical structure and biological functions of the specific vaccine immunogens. Research may define the extent to which the stability of oral poliovirus vaccine may be improved by the addition of certain antiviral components that ...

Analysis of the Thermostability of Enolases
1976We have previously (1,2) characterized the enolases purified from the thermophiles Thermus X-1 and Thermus aquaticus YT-1. In this report we wish to establish the homology of these enzymes with enolases purified from two mesophilic organisms, yeast and rabbit, to illustrate the variability of thermostability measured by a variety of procedures, and to ...

Seven hyper-stable multiple mutants have been constructed in staphylococcal nuclease by various combinations of eight different stabilizing single mutants. The stabilities of these multiple mutants determined by guanidine hydrochloride denaturation were 3.4 to 5.6 kcal/mol higher than that of the wild-type.

Synthesis of thermostating devices. III. Minimization of the error of thermostating
Journal of Engineering Physics, 1986The article suggests a method of choosing the design parameters for a heatertype thermostat. Approximate formulas are obtained for determining the dynamic error in on-off control, and the problem of its minimization is dealt with.

Thermostable Enzymes in Lignocellulose Hydrolysis
2007Thermostable enzymes offer potential benefits in the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic substrates; higher specific activity decreasing the amount of enzymes, enhanced stability allowing improved hydrolysis performance and increased flexibility with respect to process configurations, all leading to improvement of the overall economy of the process.
