Functional dissection of the multi-domain di-heme cytochrome c(550) from Thermus thermophilus. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
In bacteria, oxidation of sulfite to sulfate, the most common strategy for sulfite detoxification, is mainly accomplished by the molybdenum-containing sulfite:acceptor oxidoreductases (SORs).

Expanding the Enzymatic Toolbox for Carboligation: Increasing the Diversity of the ‘Split’ Transketolase Sequence Space

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
Several putative split transketolases were retrieved via (meta)genome mining, increasing our understanding of this type of prokaryotic TK, whose domains are located on two separate subunits. Ten split TKs were purified and tested for erythrulose production, with the best‐performing enzyme kinetically characterized.

Search for enzimes of interest in a library of metagenomics of hot spring : Beta-galactosidases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
[Resumen] La obtención de β-galactosidasas a partir de metagenotecas de aguas termales, es de especial interés debido a que conservan su actividad a altas temperaturas y son más resistentes que sus homólogas mesófilas, permitiendo llevar a cabo la ...

Caldomycin, a new guanidopolyamine produced by a novel agmatine homocoupling enzyme involved in homospermidine biosynthesis

open access: yesScientific Reports
An extreme thermophilic bacterium, Thermus thermophilus produces more than 20 unusual polyamines, but their biosynthetic pathways, including homospermidine, are not yet fully understood.

Noncanonical cell-to-cell DNA transfer in Thermus spp. Is insensitive to argonaute-mediated interference [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Horizontal gene transfer drives the rapid evolution of bacterial populations. Classical processes that promote the lateral flow of genetic information are conserved throughout the prokaryotic world.

Chemoenzymatic Cascade Synthesis of Metal‐Chelating α‐Amino Acids

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 17, Issue 5, March 6, 2025.
Bipyridyl‐l‐alanine (BpyAla) is a highly sought, metal‐chelating non‐canonical amino acid. However, its high cost has hindered many applications. Here, we develop a chemoenzymatic approach to efficiently construct BpyAla. This strategy is general to many types of metal‐chelating amino acid, and we show that a newly available BpyAla analog can be ...
