A plasmid vector for an extreme thermophile,Thermus thermophilus [PDF]
The host-vector system for an extreme thermophile, Thermus thermophilus HB27, was developed. The host strain has a mutation in tryptophan synthetase gene (trpB), and the mutation was determined to be a missense mutation by DNA sequence analysis. A Thermus-E. coli shuttle vector pYK109 was constructed.

The heterotrimeric Thermus thermophilus Asp-tRNAAsn amidotransferase can also generate Gln-tRNAGln [PDF]
Thermus thermophilus strain HB8 is known to have a heterodimeric aspartyl-tRNAAsn amidotransferase (Asp-AdT) capable of forming Asn-tRNAAsn [Becker, H.D. and Kern, D. (1998) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 95, 12832–12837].

Electrostatic potential as a reactivity scoring function in computer‐assisted enzyme engineering
We present a computational metric that quantifies the electrostatic complementarity of enzymes to the charge distribution of substrates at the transition state. Implemented in BindScan, this metric accurately predicts functionally relevant mutations in glycoside hydrolases.

Identity elements of Thermus thermophilus tRNAThr [PDF]
In this study, we identified nucleotides that specify aminoacylation of tRNAThr by Thermus thermophilus threonyl‐tRNA synthetase (ThrRS) using in vitro transcripts. Mutation studies showed that the first base pair in the acceptor stem as well as the second and third positions of the anticodon are major identity elements of T.

Identification of a VapBC toxin–antitoxin system in a thermophilic bacterium Thermus thermophilus HB27 [PDF]
There are 12 putative toxin–antitoxin (TA) loci in the Thermus thermophilus HB27 genome, including four VapBC and three HicBA families. Expression of these seven putative toxin genes in Escherichia coli demonstrated that one putative VapC toxin TTC0125 ...

Summary Flavodiiron proteins (FDPs) catalyse light‐dependent reduction of oxygen to water in photosynthetic organisms, creating an electron sink on the acceptor side of Photosystem I that protects the photosynthetic apparatus. However, ambiguity about the electron donor(s) remains, and the molecular mechanisms regulating FDP activity have remained ...

Structure of peptidoglycan from Thermus thermophilus HB8 [PDF]
The composition and structure of peptidoglycan (murein) extracted from the extreme thermophilic eubacterium Thermus thermophilus HB8 are presented. The structure of 29 muropeptides, accounting for more than 85% of total murein, is reported. The basic monomeric subunit consists of N-acetylglucosamine-N-acetylmuramic acid-L-Ala-D-Glu-L-Orn-D-Ala-D-Ala ...
