Effects of smoking on thiol/disulfide homeostasis
Cigarette smoking is an important risk factor for many diseases. This study aimed to evaluate whether cigarette smoking is associated with changes in the thiol/disulfide homeostasis (TDH), a novel biomarker of systemic oxidative ...

ABSTRACT Multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) are inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the CNS whose diagnosis is mainly based on clinical evidence, magnetic resonance imaging, and the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Current approaches provide only partial insight into disease‐related biological processes, thus

Stimuli‐responsive nanostructured hydrogen sulfide donors for enhanced cancer treatments
Three typical kinds of stimuli‐responsive nanostructured hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donors are reviewed. The nanostructures ensure precise delivery of H2S to the lesion site and regulate the release behavior. The H2S‐based gas therapy has been used to synergize with other cancer treatment modalities, achieving enhanced efficacy while reducing side effects.

A cascade‐responsive small‐molecule prodrug (DHU‐NO3) sequentially releases methylene blue (triggered by reactive oxygen species) and nitric oxide (controlled by 405 nm light), enabling precise spatiotemporal coordination of photodynamic therapy and NO gas therapy to effectively inhibit MYC‐amplified osteosarcoma growth.

Cysteine Thioaldehydes: Photolytic Generation, Reactivity, and Biological Implications
Photolysis of cysteine phenacylsulfides bearing non‐conjugating electron‐withdrawing substituents leads to high conversions into cysteine thioaldehydes through a Norrish type‐II pathway. This methodology enabled the study of the aqueous reactivity of these important biosynthetic intermediates, which, depending on peptide sequence, pH and buffer ...

Non‐canonical PKG1 regulation in cardiovascular health and disease
It is well established that the cyclic GMP‐dependent protein kinase I (PKG1) is canonically activated by cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), enabling its regulation of vascular tone, cardiac function and smooth muscle homeostasis. However, diverse non‐canonical stimuli of PKG1 have also been identified.

How does thiol/disulfide homeostasis change in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus?
Aims: An increase in reactive oxygen species leads to formation of covalent bonds between sulfur atoms, thus thiol/disulfide homeostasis shifts towards the disulfide direction and oxidative damage occurs. We aimed to determine thiol/disulfide homeostasis
