Unexpected Dual Function of Plant YUCCA Enzymes Links Chlorophyll Catabolism to Auxin Homeostasis
YUCCA enzymes are well known to catalyze the main step of auxin biosynthesis in plants. Here, a hitherto undescribed dual function was discovered, revealing that some YUCCAs also act in chlorophyll degradation. In vitro feedback regulation furthermore suggests a link between chlorophyll degradation and hormone homeostasis and a physiological role of ...

Thiol Reductases in Deinococcus Bacteria and Roles in Stress Tolerance
Deinococcus species possess remarkable tolerance to extreme environmental conditions that generate oxidative damage to macromolecules. Among enzymes fulfilling key functions in metabolism regulation and stress responses, thiol reductases (TRs) harbour ...

An oral nanoplatform, MOP@T@D, which can maintain glucose homeostasis and restore islet β cells in diabetic rats is developed. It achieves efficient intestinal absorption and liver‐targeted delivery. The nanoparticle disintegrates only in response to hyperglycemia to release insulin on demand and provides antioxidant protection through selenoprotein ...

Redox regulation of mammalian sperm capacitation
Capacitation is a series of morphological and metabolic changes necessary for the spermatozoon to achieve fertilizing ability. One of the earlier happenings during mammalian sperm capacitation is the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that will ...

Thiol-based redox regulation in sexual plant reproduction: new insights and perspectives [PDF]
The success of sexual reproduction in plants involves (i) the proper formation of the plant gametophytes (pollen and embryo sac) containing the gametes, (ii) the accomplishment of specific interactions between pollen grains and the stigma, which ...

PDAC has a poor prognosis due to chemoresistance. We revealed that MCU upregulation is associated with chemoresistance and stemness in PDAC. MCU‐mediated Ca2+ influx induced ER stress, activating the PERK‐ATF4/NRF2 axis to enhance PSAT1/SLC711 expression and glutathione synthesis, reducing ROS and maintaining stemness.

General aspects of plant thioredoxins
Chloroplast is the organelle for photosynthesis in eukaryotic cells. In it the presence of a light-dependent ferredoxin/thioredoxin system (FTS) and a NADPH-dependent thioredoxin reductase C (NTRC), have been implicated in plant defense response and at ...

Behavioral mechanisms of mammalian sperm guidance
In mammals, sperm guidance in the oviduct appears essential for successful sperm arrival at the oocyte. Hitherto, three different potential sperm guidance mechanisms have been recognized: thermotaxis, rheotaxis, and chemotaxis, each of them using ...

Lipoamide Dehydrogenase, Glutathione Reductase, Thioredoxin Reductase, and Thioredoxin
Abstract A procedure has been developed for the purification of lipoamide dehydrogenase, glutathione reductase, thioredoxin reductase, and thioredoxin from Escherichia coli B, in which the four proteins are purified together in the initial stages separation effected in two steps, and the individual purifications completed in one or two steps.
