Roughness of fracture surfaces [PDF]
We study the fracture surface of three dimensional samples through a model for quasi-static fractures known as Born Model. We find for the roughness exponent a value of 0.5 expected for ``small length scales'' in microfracturing experiments.

Analysis of three-dimensional interface corner cracks [PDF]
The growth of an interfacial crack, from the straight corner along the joint plane between the two long plates made of different materials is considered in this paper. Three different shapes of the crack front are analyzed: the concave, triangular and the quarter circular shape.

dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Fatigue Crack Propagation Path and Life Prediction Based on XFEM
Based on the theory of linear elastic fracture mechanics, the relationships between material constants c3, c4 required in Abaqus and constants C, m in Paris formula are derived.

Mouse pre‐implantation development involves a transition from totipotency to pluripotency. Integrating transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, low‐input proteomics and functional assays, we show that eight‐cell embryos retain residual totipotency features, whereas cytoskeletal remodeling regulated by the ubiquitin‐proteasome system drives progression ...

Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Three-dimensional elastic-plastic finite-element analyses of constraint variations in cracked bodies [PDF]
Three-dimensional elastic-plastic (small-strain) finite-element analyses were used to study the stresses, deformations, and constraint variations around a straight-through crack in finite-thickness plates for an elastic-perfectly plastic material under ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Finite-element analyses and fracture simulation in thin-sheet aluminum alloy [PDF]
A two-dimensional, elastic-plastic finite-element analysis was used with a critical crack-tip-opening angle (CTOA) fracture criterion to model stable crack growth in thin-sheet 2024-T3 aluminum alloy under monotonic loading after precracking at different
