Through-Air Drying of Unbacked Tufted Carpets
Textile Research Journal, 2001Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a pilot-scale laboratory through-air dryer are used to study through-air drying of unbacked tufted nylon carpets. MRI is used to study the effect of the vacuum extraction procedure on local moisture distribution within the carpet and to measure local moisture profiles during through-air drying where airflow rate is ...

Through air drying of paper—the effect of dryer fabric
Drying Technology, 2018AbstractA custom experimental apparatus is designed to perform through air drying under well-controlled drying conditions such as air temperature and mass-flowrate. Using a novel optical measurement technique, the spatial distribution of moisture content in paper during through air drying is quantified as a function of time. The technique is capable of

Design of staged through-circulation drying with air reversals
Chemical Engineering Science, 1995A universal mathematical model has been developed for staged through-circulation dryers with air reversals on the basis of the general expression of the characteristic drying curves. The model can be used for analysis and design calculation of the drying of any material in such a process.

A model of through-air drying of tufted textile materials
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2002Abstract A transient two-dimensional mathematical model is developed to simulate the through-air drying process for tufted textile materials. The heat and mass transfer in a cylindrical porous medium and the air flowing around it are analyzed separately.

The influence of grammage and pulp type on through air drying
Nordic Pulp & Paper Research Journal, 2015The influence of grammage and pulp type on through air drying was studied. The temperature of a sample was measured during the drying process and the observed temperature changes were used to evalu ...

Improving Carpet Through-Air Drying by Means of Increased Air Permeability 1
Textile Research Journal, 2002Air permeability is an important parameter in through-air drying of unbacked tufted carpet. The primary backing of tufted carpet is the dominant parameter determining carpet air permeability. Carpets of identical construction are tufted using woven and nonwoven primary backings, and the effects of primary backing type on air permeability and drying are

Abstract The use of infrared radiation for heating the web in the through air drying process was investigated in lab scale. The hypothesis was that infrared radiation should be a more efficient method to transfer drying energy to the wet web compared to hot air, but that a certain air flow is still required as a transport medium for the ...

Cold dry air-induced rhinitis: effect of inhalation and exhalation through the nose
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1995Ten subjects with a history of cold air-induced nasal symptoms participated in a randomized two-period crossover study to evaluate the occurrence and magnitude of the reaction induced by inhalation and exhalation of cold dry air through the nose. The protocol involved breathing of either warm moist or cold dry air for 45 min at resting breathing rates.
