Radiosensitization of Rare-Earth Nanoparticles Based on the Consistency Between Its K-Edge and the X-Ray Bremsstrahlung Peak

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials
Nanoparticle-based X-ray radiosensitization strategies have garnered significant attention in recent years. However, the underlying mechanisms of radiosensitization remain incompletely understood.

Comparison of laser performance for diode-pumped Tm:YLF of various doping concentrations

open access: yes, 2005
Single-end-pumped laser performance of 2, 4, and 6at.% Tm-doped YLF rods is reported. For the pumping configuration employed, crystal fracture was observed to occur for a thermal load per unit absorption length of ~13W/cm.

Calcium Niobate Ca(NbO3)2—A New Laser Host Crystal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
Large single crystals of calcium niobate Ca(NbO3)2, grown by the zochralski technique, are transparent and can be doped with rare earth or transition metal ions.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Thirty versus 60-Watt thulium laser enucleation of prostate: Toward the development of low-power anatomical enucleation of the prostate

open access: yesUrology Annals
Introduction: We aimed to study whether using 30 W versus 60 W thulium enucleation of the prostate (ThuLEP) would affect postoperative outcomes in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Challenges of temperature-dependent emission spectra measurement of thulium-doped fibers around 2 µm [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Understanding temperature’s impact on spectroscopic properties in high-power thulium-doped fiber lasers is crucial for accurate numerical modeling. Our study discusses influence of thulium concentration and temperature-induced bend losses on emission ...

Broadband waveguide quantum memory for entangled photons

open access: yes, 2010
The reversible transfer of quantum states of light in and out of matter constitutes an important building block for future applications of quantum communication: it allows synchronizing quantum information, and enables one to build quantum repeaters and ...

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Valencies of the lanthanides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The valencies of the lanthanides vary more than was once thought. In addition to valencies associated with a half-full shell, there are valencies associated with a quarter- and three-quarter-full shell.
