Freeform Manufacturing of Plant‐Based Structural Colors for Scalable Photonic and Mechanochromic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A green, freeform manufacturing approach that utilizes robust aqueous two‐phase systems to create intricate and scalable photonic structures and non‐planar mechanochromic hydrogel actuators from plant‐based hydroxypropyl cellulose. This approach broadens the structural possibilities of sustainable photonic devices and mechanochromic systems, offering ...

Dietary thyme essential oil (Thymus vulgaris) changes serum stress markers, enzyme activity, and hematological parameters in gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) exposed to silver nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) juveniles with an average weight of 8.73± 2.1 g were fed a basal diet (control) and three experimental diets (T200, T400 and T800), containing 200, 400 and 800 mgkg^-1, respectively of thyme essential oil (Thymus ...

Nanoparticle Immunoadjuvant Complexes Augment Germinal Center Responses to Vaccination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Scaffolding IL‐21 on the surface of a self‐assembling nanoparticle immunogen drives improved germinal center and humoral immune responses. These nanoparticle immunoadjuvant complexes (NICs) functionally modulate the germinal center driving improved somatic hypermutation and antibody maturation, suggesting this platform has potential utility as a ...

Anti-Biofilms’ Activity of Garlic and Thyme Essential Oils against Salmonella typhimurium

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Biofilm control by essential oil (EO) application has recently increased to preclude biofilm production on foods and environmental surfaces. In this work, the anti-biofilm effects of garlic and thyme essential oils using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method against Salmonella typhimurium recovered from different abattoir samples were ...

Radioprotective Effects of Thymus Vulgaris L. Essential Oil on Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Biomedical Technologies
Introduction: Free radicals generated by ionizing radiations, as a powerful cytotoxic agent, can damage DNA and proteins. Thymus vulgaris L (thyme) plant is a rich source of antioxidant phenolic compounds, which makes it a preferable candidate for ...

Do topical repellents divert mosquitoes within a community? Health equity implications of topical repellents as a mosquito bite prevention tool. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
OBJECTIVES: Repellents do not kill mosquitoes--they simply reduce human-vector contact. Thus it is possible that individuals who do not use repellents but dwell close to repellent users experience more bites than otherwise.

Targeting DAP5 Disrupts Alternate Mode of Translational Initiation in Tregs and Potentiates Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Regulatory T cells (Tregs) suppress antitumor immunity. This study identifies that the translation scaffold DAP5/eIF4G2 is upregulated in tumor‐infiltrating Tregs (ti‐Tregs). DAP5 mediates an alternate translation mode to sustain CD25 and MCL‐1 expression, which is critical for ti‐Treg stability and survival in the tumor microenvironment.
