Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Time and Temperature Effects on the Digestive Ripening of Gold Nanoparticles: Is There a Crossover from Digestive Ripening to Ostwald Ripening?

open access: yes, 2016
The effects of time and temperature on the gold nanoparticle sizes obtained by digestive ripening have been investigated. In digestive ripening, a polydisperse colloid, upon refluxing with a surface-active ligand in a solvent, gets converted to a nearly ...

Determining the minimum ripening time of artisanal Minas cheese, a traditional Brazilian cheese [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Physical, physicochemical, and microbiological changes were monitored in 256 samples of artisanal Minas cheese from eight producers from Serro region (Minas Gerais, Brazil) for 64 days of ripening to determine the minimum ripening time for the cheese to ...

Culture-Independent Quantitative Approach to Monitoring the Dynamics of Bacterial Population During Istrian Cheese Ripening

open access: yesFood Technology and Biotechnology, 2013
In order to preserve the specificity of artisanal cheese and to minimize variations in quality, real-time PCR can be applied to monitor the dynamics of autochthonous bacterial population throughout ripening.

Effect of early amniotomy on delivery outcome with/without cervical ripening: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesIranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research
Background: Although shorter labors are the benefits of Early Amniotomy (EA), it may lead to risks such as non-reassuring fetal testing and cesarean delivery. Also, the effect of cervical ripening to induce labor before amniotomy is unknown.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Reduction of ripening time of full-scale manganese removal filters with manganese oxide-coated media

open access: yes, 2015
Effective manganese removal by conventional aeration-filtration with virgin filter media requires a long ripening time. The aim of this study was to assess the potential of manganese oxide-coated media to shorten the ripening time of filters with virgin ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effect of harvest time, post-harvest storage and ripening temperature on fruit quality of reed avocado cultivar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Thesis (M. Sc. (Agriculture, Horticulture)) --University of Limpopo, 2016‘Reed’ avocado is a late season cultivar introduced to South Africa from California. The cultivar has shown good adaptation and produces quality fruit with export potential. Its pre-

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
