Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A high-glucose diet affects Achilles tendon healing in rats

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Chronic and acute tendinopathies are difficult to treat and tendon healing is generally a very slow and incomplete process and our general understanding of tendon biology and regeneration lags behind that of muscle or bone.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Synergistic protective and regenerative effects of hyaluronic acid and polynucleotides against UVA-induced oxidative stress in dermal fibroblasts

open access: yesScientific Reports
Ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation, a principal driver of skin photoaging, generates excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) in dermal fibroblasts, causing oxidative stress, loss of viability, inflammatory signaling, and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation.

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Temporal transcriptome highlights the involvement of cytokine/JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway in the osteoinduction of BMSCs

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2023
Background Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)-based therapy offers an effective strategy for bone regeneration to solve the clinical orthopedic problems. However, the transcriptional regulation of multiple transitional stages of continuous osteogenesis from ...
