Bufarenogin induces intrinsic apoptosis via Bax and ANT cooperation
Toads have high medicinal value and have been used for medicinal purposes since the Tang Dynasty period (7th‐10th Century AD). Bufarenogin, an active anti‐tumor constituent of toad venom, shows anti‐tumor activity.

Context Acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) is a malignant hematological tumour characterized by the presence of promyelocytic leukaemia–retinoic acid receptor A (PML-RARA) fusion protein. Cinobufagin (CBG) is one of the main effective components of toad

An evolutionary molecular dynamics platform is used to design P1.6, a membrane‐active peptide that senses lipid packing defects in viral envelopes. P1.6 adopts a stabilized α‐helical structure upon membrane contact, disrupts virus‐like liposomes, and damages HIV‐1 particles.

Community‐level effects of Müllerian mimicry on pollinator diversity and functioning
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Müllerian mimicry, a mutualistic interaction in which harmful species evolve similar warning signals, is often accompanied by niche divergence among mimetic species. While these aspects have traditionally been studied in an evolutionary context, their community‐level ...

New Diagnoses Cover Venomous Toads and Exploding Spacecrafts [PDF]
Many of us are shaking our heads as another deadline looms for health care reform (exhibiting diagnostic code Z734, inadequate social skills not elsewhere classified). October 1, 2015, is the newest date for conversion to a new classification for diseases used by virtually all medical practices for billing purposes.

The Influence of Climate and Livestock Grazing on Two Species of Burrowing Desert Frogs
ABSTRACT Frogs are one of the most vulnerable groups of vertebrates globally, occupying a range of environments including arid deserts. They are threatened by many interacting factors, including climate change and livestock grazing. In this study, we present the first long‐term research (over 30 years) on two arid‐dwelling frogs in Australia, the ...

The psychedelics 5‐MeO‐DMT and bufotenin—famously secreted by some toads—have been made in many different ways since 1936. Bufotenin (also spelt as bufotenine) and its methylated derivative, 5‐methoxy‐N,N‐dimethyltryptamine (5‐MeO‐DMT), are potent psychedelics that are found in many plants but also excreted by some species of toads.

Securing Generative Artificial Intelligence with Parallel Magnetic Tunnel Junction True Randomness
True random numbers can protect generative artificial intelligence (GAI) models from attacks. A highly parallel, spin‐transfer torque magnetic tunnel junction‐based system is demonstrated that generates high‐quality, energy‐efficient random numbers.

Antiplasmodial and Cytotoxic Activities of Toad Venoms from Southern Amazon, Brazil [PDF]
The drug-resistance of malaria parasites is the main problem in the disease control. The huge Brazilian biodiversity promotes the search for new compounds, where the animal kingdom is proving to be a promising source of bioactive compounds. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the antiplasmodial and cytotoxic activity of the compounds ...
