Toosendanin relatives, trypanocidal principles from Meliae Cortex
Journal of Natural Medicines, 2020Africa Trypanosomiasis remains a serious health problem, but the approved drugs for this disease are so few that novel trypanocidal compounds are demanded. In search for trypanocidal principles from medicinal plants, we found MeOH extracts of Meliae Cortex with potent activity through the screening from about 300 kinds of methanolic extract.

Toosendanin induced hepatotoxicity via triggering PERK-eIF2α-ATF4 mediated ferroptosis
Toxicology Letters, 2023Toosendanin (TSN) is the main active compound of Melia toosendan Sieb et Zucc with various bioactivities. In this study, we investigated the role of ferroptosis in TSN-induced hepatotoxicity. The characteristic indicators of ferroptosis were detected including reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid-ROS, glutathione (GSH), ferrous ion and the expression ...

Development of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for toosendanin
Analytica Chimica Acta, 2008Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were developed by using polyclonal antibody for toosendanin (TSN), a biopesticide from Melai toosendan Sieb. et Zucc. Their application in the determination of this analyte in spiked cabbage, tomato and apple samples was studied.

Evaluation of toosendanin as a botulinum neurotoxin antagonist
The Botulinum J., 2008Toosendanin (TSN), a tetranortriterpenoid compound from the plant Melia toosendan, has been reported to protect rats and non-human primates from the lethal actions of botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT/A). TSN was tested in isolated mouse phrenic nerve-hemidiaphragm preparations against BoNT serotypes A, B and E.

Design, synthesis, and anti-triple negative breast cancer activity of novel Toosendanin derivatives
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2023Toosendanin (TSN) is a natural anti-cancer compound that is isolated from the traditional Chinese herbal Melia toosendan Sieb et Zucc. However, the research effect of TSN in the treatment of Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is still far from ideal.

Anti-cancer effect of toosendanin and its underlying mechanisms
Journal of Asian Natural Products Research, 2018Toosendanin (TSN) is a triterpenoid purified from the medicinal herb Melia toosendan Sieb. et Zucc and has been used as an insecticide for decades. Recent studies have attracted increasing interest of TSN due to its novel anti-cancer effect in diverse cancer models.

Toosendanin facilitates [3H]noradrenaline release from rat hippocampal slices
Natural Toxins, 1996AbstractSlices of hippocampus of the rat, preincubated with [3H]noradrenaline ([3H]NA), were used to investigate the effects of toosendanin on the release of [3H]NA. Toosendanin potently enhanced spontaneous 3H outflow. Seventy‐four percent of the enhancement was inhibited by reserpine pretreatment.
